ORS Impact is excited to announce the release of three new resources on narrative change. While narrative change has become an increasingly widespread approach among those seeking social change, many questions remain: ▪ Why narrative change, and to what end? ▪ What is the role of narrative change in social change? ▪ What works and what doesn’t? ▪ What types of change are relevant through narrative change strategies? ▪ What is the relationship between narrative change and power building, and what lies at the intersection? These are some of the questions explored in our featured narrative change resources. Whether you’re an advocate, grassroots organizer, policy maker, researcher, evaluator, or funder, these tools can enhance and deepen your understanding of narrative change as a concept and social change strategy. Let us know what you think! _______ 1️⃣ - NARRATIVE CHANGE: A Review of Concepts, Frameworks, and Approaches (https://lnkd.in/giU4CdDG) This report reviews concepts, frameworks, and approaches from the academic and gray literature on social movements, narrative persuasion, and storytelling for social change. _______ 2️⃣ - NARRATIVE CHANGE COMPONENTS: Stories, Narratives, Mindsets, Paradigms, and Culture as Part of Cultural and Systems Change (https://lnkd.in/gCHg9Fsb) This working paper lays out the building blocks of narrative change, including stories, narratives, mindsets, paradigms, and culture, and examines their interrelationship as part of cultural and systems change. _______ 3️⃣ - NARRATIVE POWER: Accelerating Narrative Change from the Ground Up (https://lnkd.in/g2nvuMuz) Spearheaded by the Million Voters Project (MVP), this report assesses the narrative power building infrastructure in California, identifies priorities for growing narrative power from the ground up, and provides recommendations for building narrative infrastructure and power for transformative change. #narrativechange #socialimpact #evaluation #socialchangestrategy #orsimpact

Coming from a grassroots background, I am keenly aware of just how much 'assessments' need to be done differently. It should move away from alienating, extractive and disempowering approaches. Instead, it should become another addition to a changemaker's toolkit to guide their own growth and impact. Here's our attempt at flipping the script through our Evolution Tracker; a Pokemon-meets-activism tool which makes assessments more of a game that young people play with their friends, rather than a boring test that young people take for someone else. https://lnkd.in/d8KVCDZB

Steps to End “Divide and Rule” Governance: 1. Build Unity and Community: Foster collective consciousness through education, art, and community-building to break down artificial divisions. 2. Educate on Power and Media Literacy: Teach people to recognize manipulation in media and expose power dynamics that fuel division. 3. Promote Decentralization: Empower local governance and cooperative economies, reducing reliance on centralized authorities. 4. Cultivate Empathy and Connection: Bridge social divides through shared experiences, dialogue, and restorative justice. 5. Encourage Self-Sovereignty: Empower individuals with emotional resilience and critical thinking to resist divisive narratives. 6. Demand Transparency: Insist on transparency and participatory governance to hold leaders accountable. 7. Use Technology for Connection: Promote digital literacy and support open-source, community-centered tech. Together, these steps shift power to the people, creating a society built on unity and integrity rather than division.

The subject of digital capitalism has troubled me for quite some time. That's why I chose to engage in a course created by https://www.tni.org/en on this matter. A program that enlightens political advocates and aids in comprehending the subject on a more profound level. Digital capitalism refers to the economic system that has emerged as a result of the integration of digital technologies into various aspects of production, distribution, and consumption. It is characterized by the dominance of digital platforms and entities in driving economic activity, often leading to increased concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a few key players. Key points from the teachers include: 1. Cory Doctorow: - Highlights the role of digital platforms in monopolizing sectors and the flexibility inherent in digital products. - Discusses how algorithms and AI can rapidly change outcomes, impacting users and workers alike. - Emphasizes the need for studying, understanding, and strategizing to regain power in the face of digital capitalism's dominance. 2. Gurumurthy Kasinathan: - Traces the rise of capitalism, particularly accelerated by digital technology since the late 1980s. - Points out the increasing wealth accumulation among owners of digital entities. - Critiques the monopolistic tendencies and lack of accountability of digital giants like Facebook, and the societal impacts of hyper-consumerism driven by digital commerce. 3. Sofía Scasserra: - Argues that technology is socially constructed and can perpetuate existing power dynamics. - Draws parallels between historical examples of technology (e.g., bicycles) and contemporary digital technologies, highlighting issues of inclusivity and power. - Advocates for resisting and shaping technology to create a more equitable digital future. Overall, these perspectives underscore the complex interplay between technology, capitalism, and social dynamics in shaping the digital landscape and call for critical examination and proactive action to address its implications. #DigitalCapitalism #TechMonopolies #DigitalEconomy #TechOligarchy #DataPower #PlatformEconomics #DigitalInequality #TechControl #DigitalActivism #TechEthics #DigitalSociety #DataPrivacy #TechRegulation #CorporatePower #DigitalJustice

Technology has the power to amplify voices across the world. However, without reform, vulnerable communities are at risk of harm. Governments and civil society can collaborate through OGP's platform to prioritize digital models that bridge gaps and ensure #DigitalInclusion.

📖 Read our latest analysis, 'Path dependence in policymaking — how does the past constrain the present?' written by co-founder Matthew Chiu: https://lnkd.in/e9qexit6 💡 Policymakers wield the power to develop and implement strategies that drive economic growth and innovation. But they aren't omnipotent: history can also bind policymakers in the present. — constraints on the set of present policy choices due to past decisions. Policy can play a major role in helping or hindering innovation, so the stakes are high. Understanding the effect of path dependency on policy and strategy is crucial. ✍️ Let us know what you think in the comments! #protopia #protopiagroup #growth #innovation #pathdependency #policy
