The marketing strategies to go from $1-$10M… Are different from the marketing strategies needed to go from $10-$100M, $100M-$250M, and $250M+ If you’re hiring a CMO, marketing director, head of marketing, etc… Make sure they have demonstrated proficiency in growing companies from your current level of revenue to your goal revenue.

People keep asking 'Is the CMO role obsolete?' and there is some truth to that, given some major MNC's have flicked the off switch But why? Well, that's a long story, but part of the problem is that marketing folks are addicted to using hedonic words for utilitarian products/services. This makes sense. Magnums sell better when they are seductive, and not just chocolate-covered frozen animal-fat on a stick. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera But in the workplace, where we should be seeking clarity over obfuscation, the latter tends to prevail. A planner becomes a futurist A qualitative researcher becomes a Behavioral Scientist* An over-worked, low-paid sales person becomes a Rockstar!! Everyone is a Leader Many more, and the latest is the 'Fractional' Marketing Director Not part-time.
