🚀 This Week in AI: Policy Changes, New Creative Tools, and National Security Partnerships Staying updated on the latest in AI can feel like a full-time job, especially after a news-filled election week. Here are three big updates worth noting: 1️⃣ Trump’s Potential AI Policy Shift With Trump elected as the 47th U.S. President, he’s promised to roll back Biden’s AI executive orders, which currently require safety testing and regulatory compliance for foundational models. VP JD Vance’s stance is particularly interesting—he’s looking to prevent AI regulation from favoring tech giants over open-source and smaller AI companies. #TrumpAI #AIPolicy 2️⃣ Runway’s Advanced Camera Control for AI Video Runway has launched Advanced Camera Control for its AI video generator, giving creators control over elements like tilt, zoom, and pan. This promises a whole new level of customization for creators in marketing and media who are tapping into AI for their video content. 🎥 #AIVideo #ContentCreation 3️⃣ Meta and Anthropic Partner with the U.S. Government on AI for Security Meta and Anthropic announced partnerships to make their language models (Claude and Llama) available for U.S. government defense and security projects. The models will aid data analysis and rapid insights without direct control over defense actions, sparking conversations around AI’s evolving role in national security. #AI #NationalSecurity 💬 Let’s discuss: Are these AI trends moving us in the right direction? How do you feel about reduced regulation and government partnerships in the AI space? https://lnkd.in/eRzgWXFH

We need more urgent Media Verification than AI regulations! At this point, it requires a full-time job to show the wrong assumptions in all the media posts. It is like BigTech spent (a lot of) money to push meaningless and often wrong reports about AI to brainwash the general audience. I could just keep copy-pasting the whole day, but I said what I wanted and ... if you want to listen to this, be my guest. What we really need is not AI regulations but better validation of media! Publishing some of the BS we see these days should result in losing their credibility, if done repeatedly and not addressing wrong info hints. It became like in science with benchmarks. A reporter used to investigate the news and double-check them. The speed with which the news are published these days does not allow it anymore. #media #reporting #trust #fakenews https://lnkd.in/e9Ac6fnz?

🔔 AI Risks: Concerns from Industry Insiders 🔔 A group of current and former employees from leading AI companies, including Microsoft-backed OpenAI and Alphabet's Google DeepMind, have raised significant concerns about the risks posed by emerging AI technologies. In an open letter, these experts highlight several key issues: ⚠️ Financial Motives vs. Effective Oversight: They emphasize that financial interests are hindering proper regulation and oversight of AI development. ⚠️ Inadequate Corporate Governance: Bespoke corporate governance structures are deemed insufficient to manage these risks effectively. ⚠️ Unregulated AI Risks: The potential dangers of unregulated AI include: Spread of misinformation Loss of independent AI systems Deepening of existing inequalities Potential for "human extinction" 🔍 Real-World Examples: Researchers have discovered instances where AI-generated images, from companies like OpenAI and Microsoft, contained voting-related disinformation, despite policies against such content. 🔗 Weak Obligations to Share Information: The letter points out that AI companies have minimal obligations to inform governments about their systems' capabilities and limitations and are unlikely to do so voluntarily. 🚨 Call to Action: The group urges AI firms to: Establish processes for employees to voice risk-related concerns Refrain from enforcing confidentiality agreements that prevent criticism This open letter is the latest in a series of calls to address the safety concerns surrounding generative AI technology, which can rapidly produce human-like text, images, and audio. #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #AIEthics #TechRegulation #OpenAI #GoogleDeepMind #AIrisks #Misinformation #InnovationWithResponsibility #TechticsAI

The AI Revolution: A Double-Edged Sword The tech world is on a roller coaster ride! AI is advancing rapidly, bringing both amazing possibilities and head-scratching challenges. Here's a breakdown of the hot-button topics: AI's Boundless Potential: From self-driving cars to GPT-4's mind-blowing language skills, AI is revolutionizing industries. This tech has the power to automate tasks, boost efficiency, and even spark creativity across fields like education, entertainment, and healthcare. The Ethics Tightrope: With great power comes great responsibility, right? Experts are grappling with the ethical implications of AI, especially regarding potential misuse like creating hyper-realistic fake news. OpenAI is taking steps to mitigate these risks, but collaboration between researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders is key. Tech Giants Under the Microscope: Microsoft's dominance and its recent AI acquisitions are raising eyebrows with regulators. Concerns lie around potential antitrust violations and stifling competition. Similar scrutiny surrounds Inflection AI, a new player focusing on personal AI assistants. Data privacy and the impact on human relationships are top concerns here. The Rumble vs. Google Showdown: This legal battle highlights the power tech giants hold over online content. Rumble accuses Google of manipulating search results to favor YouTube. This fight for free speech vs. content moderation has major implications for the future of online discourse. The Future We Shape: These developments paint a complex picture. Collaboration, competition, and regulation will all play critical roles. Here's what's next: Researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders need to work together to ensure responsible AI development and deployment. We'll likely see fierce competition as companies vie for dominance in AI. This can drive innovation, but also raise concerns about anti-competitive practices. Regulatory bodies will have their hands full ensuring fair competition, protecting consumers, and navigating the complexities of AI, privacy, and free speech. The AI revolution is here, and it's both exciting and thought-provoking. Let's remember, that technology is a tool. The impact depends on how we use it. The future of tech is not written in stone – it's a story we're writing together. Let's make it a story of responsible innovation, collaboration, and a future where technology empowers us all. #AI #FutureofTech #Collaboration Join the discussion! AI advice for small businesses: Ryan H. Vaughn asked a great question in response to my interview with Fox 43 News this week (shared here: https://lnkd.in/ebQFpHJp) : "What do you think are the biggest factors about new innovations in AI for small business leaders to consider?" Scale matters in this regard so my recommendations are different for small vs large business. For small businesses, the biggest factors to consider are productivity and the ability to punch above your weight class. Small businesses stand to enjoy greater reward with less risk than larger businesses because owners/founders are much closer to clients and the actual work delivery, so they can provide much better oversight while using AI tools. There are a ton of highly affordable AI offerings out there that should be used aggressively. But first (and most importantly), small business leaders need to become proficient at the delegation mindset. AI means you can start practicing this important skill even before you hire your first employee! Every time you need something done, ask yourself (and Perplexity) what AI tool can do this form me? Anthropic is especially great for code, ChatGPT is great for general purpose items: consultation advice, outlining, drafting, revision, summarization (though be careful about omissions). On top of that there are TONS of purpose built tools that have useful AI built in and AI features should be an expectation for any tool you pay for (quality varies dramatically so try before you buy). Most of the free tools use your data so do subscribe and watch the terms of service. Some tools require you to opt out of the use of your data for future training even on the paid tier. There's a huge ROI if AI allows you to avoid your next hire until you put another zero behind your monthly gross revenue totals. When you do hire, make sure you interview for AI experience. These people will run circles around their competition. Finally, don't let perfect be the enemy of good. These tools will have errors, but remember, so will the humans. If you, your knowledge workers and (depending on your size) your back office staff work with the technology that is available today, you should be able to get 30-50% more output from your existing payroll, and probably way more if you're a one person company. Large companies have large client bases to protect and lots of IP and institutional knowledge they need to carefully manage, not to mention lots of people to manage. That changes the game and is when you need the help of an experienced enterprise AI integrator... but those folks need to be careful of the big incumbents. In general they charge a ton of money for highly mixed results - the vast majority will never return the investment. So with that said, get out there and win the future!!!
