Recruiting life: 90% of job board applications just don’t hit the mark. Example? 🧐 Role: Head of Sales Applicant: 6 months as a Sales Assistant + 6 months in the local butchers Gotta respect the ambition though! 😂 Honestly, do people still put their details on job boards? Certain roles or markets definitely get more relevant leads from job boards and yes, one right hire can make a board worth it, but are we spending more time filtering than actually finding? I recently spoke with a £500k biller who hit those numbers by doubling down on what works—and cutting out what doesn’t. For me, that’s LinkedIn and my network every time. Anyone else feel the same? While this might seem trivial to the job poster, it creates confusion for individuals looking for the “right fit” career role and ultimately wastes time for hiring managers and recruiters as they sift through resumes or conduct interviews with candidates that don’t fit the needs of the organization. As a recruiter looking for someone to help fill the sales pipeline, it may seem inconsequential whether the role is titled Business Development or Sales. Me: sounds miserable. Is there a title? Recruiter: well, this company doesn’t do titles either Me: yeah….well… good luck with all of that. We all get calls from recruiters but this one made me really feel bad for the recruiters placing this role. If you are a sales professional looking for your next role, you should be asking tough questions during the interview process. Here's the information you need to know to make an informed decision: - What percentage of the sales team hit their quota last year? - Has the company changed its compensation plan (quotas, commission rates, eligibility, etc.) recently? If so, why? - What's the average tenure of the sales team? - What is the career progression path? - Performance vs. Goals (ARR, NDR, Churn, CSAT, NPS, TTV, etc) - How often do you evaluate & adjust territories? - Discuss how prospecting is done and what the expectations are for your role. - Ask about the tool stack. - Ask what the biggest challenge is for the Revenue team. I've hired hundreds of people in my career and I gravitate toward candidates who care enough about their future to ask the tough questions. #sales #jobsearch #hiring
