Few things in life matter more than effective communications and that applies to coordination and collaboration when the status quo is disrupted. I am excited for this new Defense Entrepreneurs Forum experiment to create a private #SatCom Net between informal and formal resource communities for continuity of collaboration in emergencies at home and abroad. #DEF #Resilience #DEFNET
On this Veterans Day we celebrate the unflappable commitment and relentless drive to serve of our Veteran community. Despite shocks to the system, moral affronts, the endless inefficiencies and mind boggling hurdles, so many of our Veterans refuse to accept the status quo and ferociously search for continued ways to serve and to have positive impact. Today, in honor of this attribute, that so many within the DEF community exhibit, we are launching #DEFNET. There is no underestimating the power of informal networks to exact impact when and where it matters most. We are running a three month experiment designed to celebrate the impact potential of communities of practice made up of Veterans and fellow co-conspirators, by working to ensure critical doers and movers and shakers, both within and outside of the #NatSec sphere remain connected and able to coordinate even when the status quo is disrupted. Equipment has been shipped to select beta testers. For more information on this line of effort reach out to hello@def.org For all that have and continue to serve - You fuel us and this community and we will endeavor to continue to explore ways to empower you to continue to fulfill that itch to serve. #ICYMI: USD(A&S) William LaPlante recently took to the stage at the McAleese and Associates Defense Programs Conference in Washington D.C. In an era of rapidly evolving threats and technology, Dr. LaPlante emphasized the indispensable role of defense industry in producing warfighting capability at the speed and scale required to safeguard our nation. 💡 Acquisition Innovation: Dr. LaPlante shed light on the DoD's efforts to better align enterprise acquisition processes across requirements, resourcing, and program management. Competitive Advantage Pathfinders are accelerating capability delivery with little to no additional funding. 🛠️ Building a Modern Defense Industrial Base: Production at scale remains a top priority. The National Defense Industrial Strategy aims to create a modernized industrial ecosystem. 🌍 Global Effort: Dr. LaPlante highlighted that achieving this vision and expanding production capacity is a team sport increasingly requiring our allies and partners working hand in hand with the full spectrum of domestic stakeholders—including Congress, venture capital, private equity, small business, new entrants, mid-tiers, and traditional primes alike. 🎥 Watch USD(A&S) full remarks below! #ExpandTheBase #DPC24

According to published LinkedIn data: “… despite veterans having valuable experience and skills, they are half as likely as non veterans to reach director or vice president level roles. This disparity reveals what many veterans feel: a systemic under valuation of military experience in the corporate world.” If you’re a C-suite leader and decision maker, and you want to make a real difference here - let’s talk. 1 page agreement, 2 days with your people. #InvestInVets 👉 TaskForceNext.com https://lnkd.in/eZC9i8mp

I wanted to highlight the below in case anybody knew any search-and-rescue (SAR) team members that the offer might be of value to. Mid Atlantic Defense Solutions is helping long-time partner Systems Engineering, Inc. (Roy Hayes Jr., Ph.D.) develop a AI/ML powered software service designed to enabled civilian SAR operations. This solution is free to users and helps SAR teams focus their efforts to maximize the likelihood of positive outcomes. Participation in the beta test will help shape tool functionality, usability, and interface and will guarantee that the final product of this effort is the tool that the civilian SAR community actually needs. Twenty-eight search-and-rescue offices from around the nation are currently participating in this effort. More participants will only result in a better tool. This effort is a spin-off of a CSAR SBIR project (now in phase II) that we have been working on with AFRL for the last two and a half years. Thanks.
Search and Rescue teams work in high-stakes conditions. Could machine learning help? SAR tactics have changed little over the years, yet the demands on SAR teams are greater than ever. That’s why we’re collaborating with long-time partner SEI (Roy Hayes Jr., Ph.D.), the Air Force Research Laboratory (SBIR Phase II) and Raytheon BBN Technology to develop a tool using machine learning to aid SAR team efforts in wilderness searches. We’re inviting SAR teams and experienced responders to participate in beta testing of this system. Your feedback will help us understand what works in the field and refine the technology to meet SAR’s unique demands. Interested in joining this effort?
