Being back in my birthplace of Darwin and exploring the stunning beauty of the Northern Territory with my wife and nearly 11-year-old daughter Meira has been a deeply grounding experience. This unique part of the world, with its rich natural landscapes and vibrant cultural heritage, reminds me how crucial it is to inspire a love of the natural world and foster an appreciation for diverse cultures in future generations. These experiences are not just about wonder; they are the foundation of change. They teach us to think differently, embrace interconnectedness, and find solutions to global challenges. This ethos drives initiatives like School in a Box, which empowers young people worldwide to learn about their environments, their cultures, and themselves. By equipping schools with the tools and resources to provide quality education, we aim to spark the curiosity and skills needed to cultivate the leaders of tomorrow. As part of this vision, I’ve reached out to the Government of Darwin to explore how we can support disadvantaged communities here in the Northern Territory. With Waste to Wonder Worldwide expanding into the APAC region, I’m excited about the potential to make a lasting impact locally while continuing to drive global change. Jaeyul recently had the incredible opportunity to present his service project directly to Dr. Huh, Associate Head for External Affairs. Jaeyul's project tackles a crucial aspect of UN SDG #9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. His specific focus is Target 9.5, which aims to significantly increase research and development in developing countries. Jaeyul's innovative proposal advocates for funding to support research projects undertaken by 3 middle school students. These projects will delve into service-related topics that connect to either a UN Sustainable Development Goal or a school-related issue. Empowering students at a young age to explore their passions, identify problems, and develop solutions is key to fostering the next generation of changemakers.
