Motherhood is a wild ride, perhaps the hardest thing I have ever done. This Women In Bio - Capital Region webinar made me feel that we are not alone in this wild journey. It was good to have this honest conversation to dissect what moms had encountered in workplaces and homes. For example, women often have a wage penalty after having a child whereas men are seen as more mature (check motherhood penalty for more info). Another thing that resonated with me was the mental load; the time we spent on researching the best gear for our kids, scheduling/making doctor's appointments, planning playdates/parties, and more. Moms are not superwomen and we shouldn't need to be. We need support, whether it is judgment-free verbal support or societal/workplace benefit support. Thanks Moms at Work and Allison for the conversation. Check out their website for more resources.
Whether you are a new parent, planning on having children, or already have children in grade school, this discussion is for you. Join Allison Venditti, the founder of the career and advocacy organization Moms at Work, for an honest conversation about working and mothering and how to make this combination better for all of us.
