Retailers and brand owners have many challenges to contend with and one that undoubtedly unites them is dealing with legacy systems and silos. It's never an intentional thing of course to have your technology and systems hamstrung by legacy infrastructure but it just happens. It stealthily creeps up on companies. Thankfully there are out-of-the-box, cloud-based and pay-as-you-go type solutions now available but care has to be taken because play around with tailoring them too much at your peril because you could be heading down that legacy road again. Here's some thoughts in my column on the issue, which is supported by the good guys BetterCommerce. https://lnkd.in/eFkZjqgF

Glynn. You think this is an issue in retail. I have just crossed into Fintech / Asset management. Major financial institutions investing £billions a day are run on expensive legacy and patchwork systems. These systems are out in terms of information timing, reliant on external agencies for collation and reporting and are open to significant errors. Honestly I have been stunned considering the money involved. I have been less stunned by the unwillingness to look at cloud based global solutions ( like I am involved in to be clear in my bias) despite almost every major CEO and advisory body talking about the need for a performance and cost overall as inertia seems to be the core mode. As for the investor groups, negligent would be my description So retail and I am sure other areas suffer but for multi £billion transaction global markets to be this outdated and patched whilst being a great opportunity for the likes of my investment is truly scary to be frank

Bingo Glynn Davis. Old Holding Back the Future. Movement from SKU to Item-Level enterprise operations is a great example of this issue in retail.

Could not agree more so many business struggle by not putting this centre and foremost. It stops businesses growing and causes many a demise.
