The Hidden Charm of Japan’s Countryside While Japan’s vibrant cities like Tokyo and Osaka often steal the spotlight, the true soul of the country is often found in its countryside. Beyond the urban lights are villages and small towns where life moves slower, traditions run deeper, and nature feels closer. From walking through tranquil bamboo forests to sipping green tea on a mountainside, the countryside offers an escape, a chance to connect with the quieter, more authentic side of Japan. Imagine visiting a small farming village where locals greet you with a warm smile, or learning a centuries-old craft from artisans who have dedicated their lives to their trade. At A Touch of Japan, we create journeys that take travelers off the beaten path, into these hidden corners of the country. Whether it’s staying in a traditional ryokan surrounded by nature, exploring seasonal festivals in rural towns, or simply enjoying the stillness of a quiet morning, the countryside has a way of making you feel deeply connected to the essence of Japan. Have you experienced Japan beyond its cities? What’s a countryside moment that’s stayed with you? #ExploreJapan #CountrysideTravel #HiddenGems #CulturalExperiences #SustainableTourism #ATouchOfJapan #AuthenticTravel #SlowTravel

Is Japan on your bucket list? It’s certainly on mine—and not just for its breathtaking beauty. #Japan offers an unmatched level of hospitality, a deep-rooted culture, and a commendable sense of solidarity among its people. It’s truly a country we can all learn from. Quite recently, there were growing concerns among locals in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto due to the overwhelming surge in tourism. Excessive crowding at major landmarks, streets filled with tourists disregarding local regulations, and, most worryingly, etiquette violations for their long-standing traditions. Long before this problem hit the headlines, I had an illuminating conversation with Sheena Raina Raniga, COO at One Rep Global who shared thought-provoking insights into Japan’s cultural values and their innate pursuit of perfection. So, before you book that trip to witness Japan’s magical Sakura season or the vibrant fall foliage, challenge yourself to be a #mindfultraveler who is capable of living as the Japanese do. <Exploring Asakusa: A Timeless Gem in the Heart of Tokyo> Today, I took a trip to Asakusa. Despite having lived in Tokyo for many years, it was my first visit to Asakusa in over a decade. Asakusa is one of Tokyo's most iconic tourist destinations, attracting 30 million visitors annually, including many from overseas. Yet, when you live nearby, it's easy to overlook these quintessentially "Tokyo" spots. Does that resonate with any of you? That aside, my visit today allowed me to rediscover the charm of this area. Asakusa embodies "Retro Tokyo." It’s a place where 1,300 years of culture and tradition are still very much alive. What’s even more fascinating is how these traditions seamlessly blend with modern culture and technology, creating a unique allure. After spending a few hours wandering around, I found myself deeply moved by the weight of Japan’s cultural heritage and the new values it continues to generate. This made me feel incredibly fulfilled. In my voice-over work, I deliver the Japanese language to my audience every day. But today’s encounter with Japan’s history has deepened my appreciation for the history behind the language itself. It has inspired me to convey it with even more sensitivity and awareness. Reflecting on the history that surrounds us can shape our tomorrows in meaningful ways. Perhaps it’s time for all of us to take a moment and do the same. #japanesevoiceover #japanesefemalevoice #tokyo #asakusa #visitjapan

The contrasting realities of visiting Japan. I took the image on the left while in Tokyo on Saturday and the image on the right while assisting with a 'yamabushi' - mountain ascetic - experience near my home in Nagano yesterday. As a full-time guide in Japan, I find it quite staggering on the insistence of inbound tourism to tread the same old tired route of Tokyo, Hakone, Fuji, Kyoto and Osaka. Media coverage of overtourism in all of those destinations is hard to miss yet relatively few inbound visitors factor it in to their plans nor travel to other regions, such as Central Japan. Having lived in Japan for more than 10 years and guided for more than 7 years, I can say with confidence you'll have a better time and garner a more complete understanding of this country by getting out of the cities and into places such as this. If you're coming to Japan or know anyone who is, I really encourage you to follow this advice. You'll have a much better experience. #getoutoftokyo #japantourism #visitjapan #overtourism
