Two days ago, I bought an air purifier for ₹10,000—a stark reminder that I’m living in Delhi, where clean water comes from an Aquaguard and clean air requires yet another machine. Everything comes with a price tag. As I looked into my daughter’s eyes, I reassured her, silently promising that she would be fine because her father had provided her with pure water and air. Yet, in the next moment, a thought struck me: what about those who can’t afford these luxuries? What about the millions of humans deprived of even the basics? And what about the animals and plants—innocent lives with no choice but to survive on this polluted air and water? It’s heartbreaking to think about. We’ve come to a point where we’ve normalized paying for things that should be the birthright of every living being. It’s time to act. It’s time to vote for leaders who can ensure clean air and water—not as charity or freebies, but as a fundamental responsibility. Enough of the distractions and temporary giveaways. We need governments that will prioritize a safe, sustainable environment for our children and for generations to come.
