If a recipe told you to bake these banana chocolate chip muffins at 350° F for 20-25 minutes, would you follow it blindly? For most, the answer is probably yes. The writer is the expert, after all. But do you know what the writer can't account for? Your specific environment. My oven runs about 10° hotter than it reads, so instead of baking it for 20-25min, I baked them for 15min. The result was beautiful, fluffy muffins that were moist and flavorful. If I had baked them 5-10min longer, they would have been overcooked, dry, and unappetizing. While the expert gave me guidelines, I used my senses and background knowledge to get the result that was best for my specific environment. Experts can give you guidelines, but they don't know your environment. Use their advice accordingly.

This is a great message Glo A., you need to understand your environment when approaching any situation. I think a good approach is to be iterative (check the oven often). For people like me that don't bake sweets, I have no idea if my oven is 'normal' or not. Same goes for people that are new to solving a particular problem or are in a new environment. Being agile and checking in often helps 🤓

Love this. Environment matters, and being clued in and willing to adapt a pattern to the situation is not only effective, but helps life feel more real and less like an imitation of Instagram. Also, those muffins were delicious, and if you would like to create more food for content inspiration, you have my full support 😂

Those look spectacular! Great points about adapting to your personal environment as well - hardly anything in life is one-size-fits-all. Just scarves, really. 🤣
