"I volunteer as an usher GFT. My role at GFT is important to make the cinema a more welcoming environment. I think GFT is a brilliant home for the more niche side of the film industry. I think it's a great platform for more independent filmmakers to actually get their work out there, get their work shown. GFT’s the one place in Glasgow that really supports independent cinema." Keir Jarvie – GFT Volunteer Aw shucks. We are so fortunate to have an army of film fans like Keir on our Volunteer Usher team. You won't find friendlier or more knowledegable ushers anywhere.

Going Global: Legacy in the Making Down Under Proud to share one of our team's Legacy in the Making films, featuring Me & the Bees, was named an official selection in the RE-Generation International Youth Film Festival (RIYFF) at the Melbourne Fringe Festival on October 19. "The core aim of this festival is to encourage our young generation to engage with important social, environmental, and cultural issues through positive, thought-provoking and solution-focused content, which promotes a sense of resilience and empowerment.” The story of Me & the Bees Lemonade—brought to life by Mikaila Ulmer and her family—is a beautiful example of all the festival celebrates. #legacyinthemaking #shortfilms #documentary #storytelling Thanks for ongoing support and congratulations to Me & the Bees, Team One, The Legacy Lab, Encompass Films, Passion Point Collective, Fast Company, McGraw Hill, D'Andra Ulmer, Theo Ulmer, Mikaila Ulmer, Julie Michael, Chris Graves, Sam Walsh, Cody Pittard, David Audelo, Jr., Ariana Nasi, Vicente Lopez, Shannon Franqui, Justice Allen, Tera Morris, Calli Clay, Paul Silverman, Ganesh Relekar, Adrian Barrow, Chris D'Rozario, Dominic Gill, Nadia Gill, Michael Fearon, Lucas Conley, Marcus Peterzell, Amy Slotnick, Nicholas Strauss, Nancy Collet, Elizabeth Dembovska, Brendan Vaughan, Vanessa S., Eleanor Pike, Rosie Churchill, Donya Dickerson, Cheryl Segura, Jonelle C., Dan Bennett and many more.

#miff Attending film festivals is one of my favorite experiences. Here are a few reasons why: 1. Diverse Perspectives: Film festivals showcase a wide array of films from different cultures and backgrounds. This diversity broadens my understanding and appreciation of global storytelling and perspectives. 2. Networking Opportunities: These events are a goldmine for networking. Meeting filmmakers, actors, and fellow film enthusiasts often leads to meaningful connections and collaborations. 3. Creative Inspiration: The innovative and original content presented at film festivals sparks my creativity. Seeing how different filmmakers tackle unique subjects and themes inspires me in my own work. 4. Engaging Discussions: Post-screening Q&A sessions and panel discussions provide deep insights into the filmmaking process and the thematic elements of the films. This interactive element enhances the overall viewing experience. 5. Community and Shared Experience: There’s something special about sharing the experience of watching a film with an audience that truly appreciates the art form. The collective reactions and discussions foster a sense of community among attendees. Film festivals are a celebration of creativity and storytelling, and I always leave them feeling inspired and energized. If you’re passionate about films, I highly recommend attending one!

Film Exhibition 5+ years ago: 1. Limited access to diverse global cinema due to geographical and financial constraints. 2. Filmmakers facing travel challenges due to disabilities. 3. Lack of platforms for emerging filmmakers to showcase their work and connect with a global audience. Film Exhibition today: 1. Curated selection of films from diverse continents, genres, and languages 🌍. 2. Virtual interactive exhibitions providing equal opportunities for filmmakers regardless of physical ability 🎥. 3. Global collaboration and inclusivity for disabled filmmakers 🤝. I don’t care what anyone says—Film Exhibition is changing for the better. Global Film Exhibition is not just about diverse films from around the world. We are about being part of a greater cause. A portion of every purchase supports LifeLine Service Dogs, a noble organization with a mission close to Amanda and Steve's hearts. LifeLine Service Dogs goes beyond by training service dogs at no cost for veterans and children, offering them an assistance canine that brings comfort, independence, and support. Gosh what a whirlwind of a week. Earlier this week I attended the CenterFrame #GetItMade Summer Mixer to speak to #directors and #producers to find out about their vision for my short 'Like Buses' Described by the organisers as like speed dating, they couldn't have been more right! With finding a connection, a spark, with someone being the best way to decide amongst an incredible talent on offer. I did indeed find that spark! More on this later... What other take aways do I have from this experience 🤓 🎬 This industry is about more than just good ideas and great stories 🎬 That nurturing talent and connections is paramount 🎬 You could have the best script, offer, showreel in the room, but sharing in that vision is worth more because it's the only thing you can't change So what were the deciding factors? 💡 That my script had sparked their creativity beyond the story 💡 An alignment of personal values and drivers 💡 Understanding and trusting that the story and characters had been created very specifically and seeing it for that 💡 A desire to invest in me as a person not just my work It was fascinating to hear how other creatives interpreted the story. I had a very varied response! So what were the things that made me wonder if this was the right fit? 🚩 Missing the theme and the tone completely 🚩 Underestimating the value of the interaction and relationships of the characters 🚩 Not being driven by the story, but by the outcomes they wanted to achieve from this process 🚩 Underestimating my knowledge and experience and how I came to write the story in the way that I did I'm a reflective person, and will go away and digest this list, understand why that was 🚩 and if there's a way I can reframe their approach. In this context, these did feel like red flags, but it's very likely in another context, these would be typical responses (as the writer) I'd have to adapt to. I recognise I have the luxury to choose who and how I want my script to be realised. I'm so grateful to Bernhard Pucher, Arianna Steigman and Nathan Haines for the opportunity to experience this! #Film #short #screenwriting #script #opportunities #aspirations

UK Asian Film Festival 2025 dates and theme announced! WHEN: 1 -11 May 2025 THEME: Longing and Belonging We invite filmmakers from around the globe to submit their works to the "Longing and Belonging" theme of the annual UK Asian Film Festival, a celebration of films that explore one of the most profound human experiences—the search for connection, identity, and purpose. In every corner of the world, people wrestle with feelings of longing—yearning for love, home, acceptance, or meaning—and the deep desire to find a place where they truly belong. Whether it’s a story of a displaced immigrant, a journey of self-discovery, a quest for love, or the tension between tradition and modernity, we are seeking films that creatively and thoughtfully delve into these emotional landscapes. Your film could explore: • Personal longing: The internal struggles for identity, self-acceptance, or reconciliation with the past. • Cultural displacement: The experience of being torn between two worlds or searching for a new home. • Relationships: The complex dynamics of belonging to or yearning for a family, community, or a lover. • Existential search: Films that probe deeper questions about the meaning of life, home, and place in the world. We encourage bold storytelling, fresh perspectives, and artistic experimentation. Whether your work is a quiet meditation on identity, a visually arresting experimental piece, or a character-driven narrative of migration or self-acceptance, we are eager to see how you interpret this timeless theme. To avail Early Bird Discount, submit now: https://lnkd.in/duzMGcxj #UKAFF2025 #longingandbelonging #personallonging #culturaldisplacement #relationships #FilmFestival #StorytellingMagic #transformativecinema

Here's another article exploring the difficulties emerging filmmakers are facing as the wealth gap continues to increase. As a working-class person, I can say that I have seen film initiatives and clubs disappear that I used to be part of as a teenager/early 20s as well as seeing consistent arts funding cuts. Everything continues to work against emerging talent at a time when we need to hear original and diverse voices in our culture. I will never let this deter me as a filmmaker or artist, and I will continue to be a storyteller no matter what. #wealthgap #indiefilmmaking #emergingtalent #artscuts

🚀 Excited to dive into another project breakdown! While finding the time to create these can be a challenge, it’s great to be sharing another peek into a past project I worked on for Jaywing and BP. 🌟 This was my favourite shot from the project and one of the most challenging to get right. I’ve been working on some other great projects recently so I can't wait to dissect and share more snapshots soon! 🔍 #ProjectBreakdown #BehindTheScenes #cinema4d #redshift
