The @ symbol existed long before e-mails! Before the end of the 19th century, the @ symbol appeared on typewriters to indicate unit price. It was later put on computer keyboards, being considered business tools, but the @ button was rarely used. This was until Ray Tomlinson, the inventor of the first email system, picked it to perfectly capture the idea of a user being “at” a specific digital location. #GizaSystems50th #FunTech #internet #GizaSystems

“We think we are creating the system for our own purposes. We believe we are making it in our own image... But the computer is not really like us. It is a projection of a very slim part of ourselves: that portion devoted to logic, order, rule, and clarity.” —Ellen Ullman, Close to the Machine: Technophilia and its Discontents #ReadReflectRepeat #InspireAndAspireDaily #QuoteQuestDaily
