This simple Clay workflow saved me a solid 15-20 min of manual research whenever someone booked a discovery call. And now it's yours...👀 This is a 3-way automation flow that... ➝ Detects a new discovery event in Calendly ➝ Cleans the data in Zapier ➝ Sends to Clay with a webhook ➝ Clay enriches the company with more data using Apollo, AI, and other native integrations ➝ Conducts a company analysis ➝ Adjust Google doc naming convention ➝ Format default discovery call questions with HTML ➝ Sends data back to Zapier using a HTTP API call ➝ Fresh doc with the research and discovery questions is created ➝ Send message in Slack tagging the correct person and pastes link to the document This whole process takes around 27 seconds after a call is booked. I always wanted my competitive analysis to refresh with the click of a button. But the reality? Competitive benchmarking often meant hours of combing through features, pricing, and customer sentiment. Only to end up with a static snapshot that was outdated within weeks. 😔 Here’s how I approach it now: 1. Gathering competitive data using tools like G2, Capterra, Trustpilot, and socials. 2. Store it on Airtable and export it as CSV to work with AI 3. Apply advanced prompting (my favorite, Graph of Thought) on CSV files and benchmark competitors. 4. Import it back to Airtable for amazing data visualizations. ✨ I can refresh this analysis easily, making competitive strategy dynamic, relevant, and actionable. We are all going to be plumbers eventually 🔧. Start and end is easy. The middle is the hardest. Soon, dashboards will design themselves. ML models will be even more automated and AI is going to take care of many manual tasks. But jobs aren’t going CTRL + ALT + Delete. Some are simply shifting. The market needs thinkers and plumbers. Movers of information and domain knowledge from A—>B. How do we get data from one place to the other? What should we do once it’s there? Who needs what where? The problem is no longer the end goal: the paper to be graded, the graphic made, the website coded. The need is in the messy middle. And it’s messy everywhere.
