So last week I hit my 11 year LinkedIn anniversary. Er....firstly, 11 years!?!? Where beejezus has that time gone!? 🤯 Secondly, I may have started my LinkedIn account 11 years ago, but I certainly haven't been putting it to work over that time. In fact I pretty much made an account and then promptly disappeared for a good 9 years... The shiny new kids on the block like Facebook and Instagram soon enticed me in to their colourful worlds and before I knew it, my LinkedIn sat on the shelf gathering dust… I cant quite remember why I decided to pick LinkedIn back up again two years ago, probably because I got a little sick of the Zuckerberg effect tbh… but I certainly haven't looked back since. I do love it here! I’ve made some great connections and friends, and created exciting business opportunities here and the thing is I feel like I am only just getting started on this platform. I'm still learning what works and what doesn't, and I always look forward to LinkedIns next new update. So photographers, don’t knock this "grown up", "straight laced", platform for building communities, finding clients and creating new networks. There are opportunities out there for you and your clients are all out there reading your posts and lurking patiently in the shadows watching your content. All of our People's Choice voting has happened on Facebook so far so we're going to switch it up and bring the party to Instagram, and in honor of Olympic competition, we're going to do some brackets! We'll explain each step as we go, but to kick things off, there will be 4 categories of theme/inspiration for the work you submit: 1) Olympics/Sports/Competition 2) Dogs (August is National Dog Month) 3) Wellness/Peace/Calm (August is National Wellness Month and International Peace Month) 4) Rainbows/Bright Colors (August is also National Crayon Collection Month.) Seem random and weird? That's how we know it will be fun! Each artist may submit one image per category. All artwork must be made of at least 50% Wissmach glass: kiln glass, art glass, and cullet are all eligible. LinkedIn's great. But there's one social platform that beats it: Meeting up in person. You meet incredible people online. You chat via Google Meets / Zoom... Send each other in-mails... Help each other on your journeys... But there's something interesting that happens when you actually hang out. It somehow becomes more 'real'. It's tough to explain, but I can attribute so many amazing things in my life to meeting up with incredible people I've met online. It all starts with taking initiative.
