Leading is simpler than we all think! In Episodes 96 & 97 - Task, Team and Individual Part 1 & 2 - I spoke to Dame Julia Cleverdon DCVO, CBE about the simple things of #leading. She says it’s keeping three dynamics going concurrently. 1. Working with individuals to bring out the best in them. 2. Building a team which functions effectively. 3. Achieving a task. If any of the three dominates, the leading becomes weak. A strong #team can achieve a task but begins to loose its stars. Great individuals can become incredibly dysfunctional and fail to work as a team so that it fails to achieve the task. You can have really happy individuals and teams who never actually make much happen. It’s a very basic but incredibly useful way of looking at leading. The nuts and bolts of leading. They were good episodes. You can find links to the episodes in the comment section.

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦𝐚 𝐯𝐬. 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬🎙️✨ In a recent podcast episode, Adam Grant, organizational psychologist and author, dives into the dark side of charisma—and it sparked a few reflections on leadership and meeting facilitation. Charisma may grab attention, but does it lead to the best outcomes in our teams? 🤔 Here are some key takeaways to consider when facilitating your next meeting: 𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐎𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝 👥: Charismatic leaders tend to dominate the stage, but effective facilitation is about empowering others. By encouraging team members to take the lead during discussions, you create opportunities for more diverse ideas and engagement. 💡 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 👂❓: Rather than steering the conversation, great facilitators know when to step back, listen, and ask thoughtful questions. These undervalued skills allow for deeper insights and help everyone feel heard. 🗣️ 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦𝐚 🌟: The best meeting facilitators don’t rely on their own charm—they help others feel more confident. Stimulating new ideas and insights by making space for every voice is how you spark genuine innovation. 💭💬 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 🙌: Research shows that people are more likely to buy into decisions when they have a say in shaping the path forward. In meetings, involving everyone in setting goals or defining next steps fosters commitment and engagement—especially when the stakes are high. 🚀 Adam Grant's insights challenge us to 🅡🅔🅣🅗🅘🅝🅚 the way we lead meetings. It’s not about who’s the most charismatic, but about how we create an environment where everyone contributes to meaningful outcomes. 💼 Take a listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/exVyS2GR 🎧. #Leadership #MeetingFacilitation #AdamGrant #Teamwork #ReflectiveInsightConsulting #Collaboration

One of the biggest challenges in company culture (particularly in Azerbaijani companies) is the growth of "yes man." This culture stifles innovation and drives companies towards failure. I highly recommend this insightful podcast recently posted by the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business. It delves into the pervasive issue of the "yes man" culture and offers real-life examples from renowned companies like Zappos and Microsoft. Listen to the podcast to understand the importance of fostering a healthy, open company culture and learn strategies to combat this issue. #Leadership #CompanyCulture #Podcast #Business #Innovation #HaasSchoolofBusiness #Zappos #Microsoft #Azerbaijan

This was one of the most difficult stages of recording the YALS series. Shahrukh Patel was dealing with covid and was isolated and here we were trying to deal with the tricky topics of ‘whole’ and separation consciousness. We decided on a very simplistic approach and left it at that – to be explored some other time when we do a series on the Power dynamics. For now, explore that simplistic approach. You've likely been tasked to draft something - an email, a presentation deck, a news article, a report, a policy or procedure - and you now have to circulate it for review and approval. Cue sweat and tears! Asking for, getting and giving feedback can be a nightmare. But it doesn’t have to be that way. For many of us, asking for, receiving and giving feedback is part of our jobs, but feedback can be hard to manage. Feedback needs to be helpful. It needs to be actionable. It needs to align with objectives. And it needs to be about substance, not style. Check out the latest episode of More Better with Tracey & Faye where Tracey Hirsch and I take you through the ins and outs of asking, getting and giving feedback so your next project doesn’t get hijacked by the feedback process. Oh and feel free to give us feedback on this episode! https://lnkd.in/ghgmHcvM
