𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝘆: A New Frontier in Coral Reef Research. Photogrammetry is a powerful technique that uses photographs to create detailed 3D models. By capturing images from multiple perspectives, we can measure coral growth, track changes, and better understand the impact of climate change on these vital marine habitats. By circling the colony and capturing images from all angles, while considering the light, we can create accurate and visually stunning 3D models. Photogrammetry has revolutionized coral reef research, providing invaluable insights into these ecosystems. We can harness this technology to research and protect our magnificent Giants! #MapTheGiants #GiantCorals #Corals #CoralReef #Unimib #SaveCoralReefs #SaveTheCorals #SCUBA #Maldives #MarineConservation #MarineBiodiversity #ReefResilience #CoralConservation #DroneConservation #Drone #DroneScience Luca Fallati Simone Montano Federica Siena

Topo-bathymetric case study: underwater artificial reef 🏞️ The City of Cockburn launched a battle against erosion at the beach and an experimental project to protect the beach. A team of researchers from the University of Western Australia (UWA) monitor its effectiveness in a three-year trial. An experimental reef 🌊 "135 precast concrete modules, carefully craned into place 100m offshore and together forming a unique engineered fringing reef, purposefully designed to reduce the energy and intensity of incoming waves, and thereby reducing erosion." Councilmagazine Our partner Sphere Drones organized a demo day in Perth to showcase the potential of the YellowScan Navigator for shallow water mapping. We are delighted to share some views of this artificial reef. 🚀 Bringing History to Life with Hybrid Reality Capture! 🏰 When documenting historic sites, achieving spatial accuracy AND visual realism is key. That’s where hybrid reality capture comes in—a powerful combination of lidar and photogrammetry that preserves every intricate detail, inside and out. And when it’s time to bring these complex datasets to life, NUBIGON is the go-to tool for immersive and detailed visualizations. A fantastic example is the Royal City of Loches, captured by Nicolas Trültzsch and his colleagues! This project involved a full lidar and photogrammetric survey of the castle’s exterior and interior. The team used a Leica RTC360 for precise exterior lidar scans, a NavVis VLX for quick and efficient interior captures, and drones for photogrammetry. The result? All datasets were seamlessly combined in NUBIGON, where the team visualized and animated them, creating stunning, dynamic renderings of this historic gem! #pointcloud #digitalheritage #laserscanning #photogrammetry #realitycapture #nubigon

Combining elements of GIS, land surveying, photogrammetry, and LiDAR provide a rich dataset for topographic mapping projects. GIS is used for map production and analysis, while land surveying incorporates the use of ground control and topo shots, and photogrammetry provides high-resolution aerial imagery and 2D/3D mapping products. The image depicted below combines uas aerial photography, land surveying, photogrammetry, and GIS. #flatironsinc #photogrammetry #lidar #gisapplication #sitescan #landsurveying #civilengineering #aerialmapping #landsurveying #rtk #gcp #dronemapping #uas #drone

The golden rules of Ground Control Point (GCP) distribution: DO: Opt for a uniform distribution pattern across your terrain, centered and covering all corners. This will help you achieve accuracy by strategically placing your GCPs for comprehensive coverage. DON'T: Fall into the pitfalls of sparse or congested GCP placements. This will only create unnecessary hurdles and compromises in your mapping accuracy, hindering the potential of your aerial photogrammetry and LiDAR projects. #PixElement #3DModeling #AerialPhotogrammetry #LiDAR #PrecisionMapping #GIS #GroundControlPoints #AccuracyMatters

Challenging? That's why we did it. In addition to the listed confined space constraints, I would emphasize on: ⚡Looking at a tunnel from one direction and then the other is like looking at an object from the front and then from the back. Sometimes hard to find SLAM features/similarities. ⚡Being inside the object, all well-known outdoor best practices to take far/mid/close pictures improving camera positioning & loop closure are hard/impossible to apply.
🔦 Drone photogrammetry in confined space Drone photogrammetry outdoors is already challenging, and within confined spaces, it's even more complex due to the following: ⚡No GPS signal helping camera positioning ⚡Impossible to have a global picture of the object or turn around; you're inside the object ⚡Changing lighting conditions. As you bring your own light, objects far away are in the dark ⚡Dust, water & moving scraps make it harder Despite these obstacles, the 3D photogrammetry model in this video demonstrates how ASIO X, equipped with a 40,000-lumen lighting system, achieves exceptional clarity and precision in even the darkest, most confined spaces, such as sewers and mining. Why does this matter? ✅ These models allow you to analyze and monitor changes over time ✅ They provide precision that is invaluable for planning and inspection ✅They make it possible to visualize spaces from different angles #DroneInnovation #photogrammetry #ASIOX #flybotix

🌐 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐋𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐲 📸✈️ Drones often come with fixed wide-angle lenses ideal for capturing aerial data. However, if you have the flexibility of interchangeable lenses, consider this: for most photogrammetry tasks, a focal length equivalent to 24-50mm is your best bet. 🔍 Why not opt for a telephoto lens for greater detail from a distance? While tempting, atmospheric conditions like haze can significantly degrade image quality. Atmospheric haze, caused by airborne particles, scatters light and reduces contrast, color saturation, and sharpness over long distances.
