Nearly four in five home sellers who plan to buy a new home are still feeling locked into their current property because of a lower interest rate, according to a recent survey from Realtor.com. More specifically, 79% of prospective sellers indicated that they’re feeling the lock-in effect — not an encouraging figure at face value, but it’s down from 82% in 2023. Finally, affordable homes are flooding the market. Although home prices hover at a median of $415,500 nationwide, properties within a significantly lower price range have just started inundating the market. The number of homes for sale in the $200,000 to $350,000 range has shot up by 20.6% compared with this same month last year, a recent Realtor.com report has found. Home buyers in the U.S. are looking at an optimistic mix of increasing inventory and an uptick in price reductions going into the spring season, according to Realtor.com. In March, the percentage of homes with price reductions increased to 15%, and the total number of homes actively for sale grew by 23.5% compared with last March. Across the country, price reductions were up compared with last year.
