As part of National Recovery Month, this week we're focusing on the importance of purpose as a motivator for positive change. Finding purpose can be a powerful driver for recovery. Purpose can be found in things like meaningful daily activities, employment, school, volunteering, caregiving, or creative pursuits. Helping others can bring a great sense of purpose and contribute to your or someone else’s recovery. Supporting someone in recovery can be a powerful, healing experience for their journey. Whether it’s volunteering, helping a friend or teaching someone a new skill, these acts of kindness foster a sense of connection and purpose that strengthens recovery. Recovery isn’t just about healing yourself; it’s also about building meaningful relationships and making a positive difference in the lives of others. By helping others, you can reinforce your own path to wellness. Why Giving is good and benefits us all. This week we have Giving Tuesday a reminder of the importance of kindness and community and encourages us as individuals to contribute in many ways. Giving is good for our health and has a positive impact on both the recipient and the giver and can be done in many ways. If you are already working in a caring profession than this may look like: · Your time – spending extra time with the people you are caring for to provide reassurance and address any concerns they may have. · Your support – providing mentorship, sharing resources, and helping out colleagues who are facing challenging cases or workloads. · Your knowledge - sharing your knowledge on different platforms, conducting workshops and training junior members of staff. · Volunteering – helping out in free clinics and other health initiatives that contribute to the community. Giving cultivates gratitude and helps strengthens professional relationships and contributes to personal growth. In our increasingly materialist world one of the most valuable things that you can give is the “Gift of Time.” #Gratitude #Giving

There's nothing quite like volunteering. Be it on a personal level, or in a professional capacity, the act of giving and helping others is more fulfilling than words can express. It's poignant to consider that lending a hand can also be a significant tool in handling grief. I was drawn to a quote from an article about the many facets of hospice volunteering. "Volunteering is truly 'chicken soup for the soul.' It warms you when you're down and makes you feel good because you've helped someone else." Isn't it incredible? In the realm of grief and bereavement, helping others becomes a way to heal ourselves. A Google study validated this saying. It found lower stress and depression levels in volunteers compared to non-volunteers. Additionally, both in-person and virtual volunteering led to a stronger sense of purpose and social connection, greatly impacting individuals' mental and physical well-being. Isn't it time for us to rethink our notion of giving? Shouldn't we consider how, in reaching out to help another, we simultaneously heal a part of ourselves? And in the hospice world, couldn't such an act also become a lifeline to those grappling with loss, offering them comfort when they need it the most? I encourage everyone reading to ponder these questions and share their own experiences or thoughts on volunteering. You never know who your words might inspire. #volunteering #hospice #grief #bereavement #mentalhealth #healing #community #socialimpact 🤝💔💡🌻

At least some part of our life must be beyond me, mine, and myself. Giving back to others is an essential part of a fulfilling life. Without some amount of selflessness, peace isn’t possible. Out of 168 hours in a week, give at least 8 hours of your life to things from which you expect nothing in return. It could be volunteering, mentoring, or just lending a helping hand to someone in need. These small acts of kindness go a long way in making a difference in someone's life. Let's make a conscious effort to be more selfless and give back to our communities. It's not about what we get in return, but about the impact we can make on someone else's life. #selflessness #givingback #kindnessmatters

🌟 Reflecting on a Year of Giving Back 🌟 This year, I’ve had the privilege of dedicating over 250 hours to the Kookaburra Kids program—a cause close to my heart. From weekend camps to activity days, I’ve seen firsthand how simple acts of kindness and support can create ripples of positive change in the lives of young people and within our communities. The theme that resonates with me most is “Little People, Big Feelings.” It’s a reminder of the strength and resilience of kids navigating emotional challenges and how vital it is for us, as a community, to show up for them. Whether it was group chats, fun activities, or just being present to listen and connect, every moment spent volunteering has reinforced my belief that time truly is the greatest gift we can offer. This isn’t about recognition—it’s about inspiration. If you’ve ever wondered whether your efforts can make a difference, I can confidently say they absolutely can. Volunteering has been a source of personal growth, fulfillment, and joy, and I’m grateful for every opportunity I’ve had to contribute to the mental health and well-being of young people. To anyone considering giving their time to a cause they care about: Take the leap. You don’t need to have all the answers; you just need the willingness to show up and care. Together, we can make meaningful change, one small step at a time. Let’s continue to build communities that uplift, support, and inspire each other. 💙 #VolunteerLife #MentalHealthMatters #CommunitySupport #TogetherWeCan #GivingBack #TimeIsTheGreatestGift
