Did you know that in 2006, we led our first EU-funded project PENTA/EACS which studied how HIV affects pregnant people and their babies? It also assessed the safety of HIV treatment, tracked how HIV is passed from mother to child and examined the health of children exposed to HIV. Want to know what it takes to manage complex projects? Today is Zero HIV Stigma Day. Despite all the advances in clinical care, we know that for people living with HIV, life can be difficult because of the stigma associated with HIV. Fast Track Cities London has been working on three key areas to tackle stigma - internalised or self-stigma, stigma in the NHS and other public services and stigma in society. #XtendFoundation, HIV stigmatization can take many forms, including but not limited to rejection by family and community, ostracism, and refusal to engage in social interactions. It can also be internalized, such as guilt, shame, or fear of abuse. This can lead to feelings of depression, shame, and hurt. HIV stigmatization can affect the treatment and care-seeking behaviors of PLHIV.
