Have you ever followed directions in Google Maps only to find that the road or path you are on doesn't actually connect with the road where you need to be? That can be due to topology (not topography!) errors. So here's why snapping is important https://lnkd.in/gy6fXHDc

Definitely, the connection between #SurveyEngineering and #Geotechnical is real, and that's why I am convinced is a perfect and 100% complementary match...the use of terrestrial #photogrammetry to create accurate face maps is getting every day more and more extended, and the results are impressive...

Tip for #LaserScanning: If you’re scanning topography, YOU BETTER USE CONTROL POINTS!! And honestly, you better be using control points anyway. Cheers!

GEOSAT's mosaic technique involves stitching together multiple #SatelliteImages to create a complete and seamless view of broad regions that cannot be captured in a single image due to sensor footprint limitations. We combine images taken at different times to create a composite view that reveals changes in an area over time. Orthorectification is essential for these images because it corrects distortions caused by terrain and sensor angles, ensuring that they accurately represent the Earth's surface.

If you're a cartography layperson like me, you may have come across this phenomenon. You're trying to make a map of the Arctic region and suddenly there's this large white dot. ⚪ Why? The Web Mercator projection typically truncates latitude at around 85.06° North and South. This truncation is necessary because beyond these latitudes, the distortion becomes so severe that the projection would fail to provide a meaningful representation of the Earth's surface. The poles, at 90° latitude, lie outside this truncated range, and hence, they cannot be accurately represented. To make accurate maps of the polar regions, we use special projections that are designed to handle these areas, like the Polar Stereographic projection. These projections don't try to wrap the whole globe onto a flat surface but instead focus specifically on representing the areas near the poles in a way that keeps them from being overly distorted. It took all my #QGIS skills to create this layout. 😅 #30DayMapChallenge Day 11 Arctic #maps
