River Kenwater provides a stunning example of how Rootlok can blend seamlessly with natural beauty. This breathtaking view showcases how GeoGrow carefully restored the flood defence bund showing why nature and Rootlok work in harmony. 🌿 With the Environment Agency keen to implement a sustainable, natural solution, the goal was to stabilise and restore the critical flood defence infrastructure while enhancing the landscapes ecological value. GeoGrow rose to the challenge, using innovative techniques to deliver a solution that not only benefits residents by ensuring safety and flood resilience but also provides a haven for local wildlife to thrive, contributing significantly to Biodiversity Net Gain. 🌎🐝🌸 ✨The result is this picturesque landscape, a serene combination of flowing water, lush greenery, and restored habitats, demonstrating how we can create spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful. This project serves as a testament to the effectiveness of our Rootlok Vegetated Retaining Wall System. #Rootlok #Watercourse #Landscape

Isn't that a beautiful sight? 🌳 🌳 🌳 Tree preservation isn't just good for the trees, it's good for everyone! These live oaks have been well-preserved in a new apartment community, and we've been checking in on them as part of our construction monitoring service. Urban trees play an important role in reducing the "heat island" effect, decreasing energy demand, decreasing stormwater runoff, providing wildlife habitats, and increasing property value. That's a win-win-win-win-win. #TreeMannSolutions | #treepreservation | #siteplanning | #urbandevelopment | #constructionmonitoring | #savetime | #savemoney | #savetrees | #urbanlandscape | #permitting | #liveoak | #texastrees

Restoring the water cycle with earthworks. Using ponds and terraces to help restorer the watershed. In a recent trip to Oregon, I joined Zach Weiss for a water stories intensive training. It was a great opportunity to work with and learn from Zach. The goals for these ephemeral ponds and terraces was to help restore the watershed of the farm we were on. Some key components of the strategy were: -Capture the runoff in terraces and ponds to soak the water into the landscape -Cut through the drain tile to reduce the water loss of the landscape -Provide habitat for wildlife -Integrate these interventions with a whole landscape design. Earthworks can be effective nature based solutions for helping to restore watersheds, when applied correctly. By restoring the hydrological cycle, we can restore landscapes. By restoring landscapes, we can mitigate and reverse some of the damage that has been done to the ecological systems we rely on. When done at scale, it can begin to mitigate the effects of climate change as well. P.S. If you want ot know more about watershed restoration, the "Water Stories" course offered by Zach and crew is a great place to start. #naturebasedsolutions #watershedrestoration #earthworks #watercycle #waterstories

🌍🐾 Celebrating Nature's Engineers: The Mighty Beaver! 🦫 Did you know that beavers are nature's master builders? These incredible animals transform barren streams into thriving ecosystems through their impressive dam-building skills. By creating wetlands, they provide vital habitats for countless plants and animals. But that's not all! Beavers play a crucial role in flood control, slowing down water flow and reducing the risk of damage during heavy rains. Their ponds act as natural water filters, purifying the water and supporting diverse wildlife. As we work towards environmental sustainability, let's recognize the importance of protecting and restoring beaver populations. These unassuming architects are essential for maintaining healthy ecosystems and can help breathe life back into our landscapes. Let’s appreciate the incredible impact of beavers on our environment! 🌿💧 #Sustainability #WildlifeConservation #Ecosystems #Beavers #NatureEngineering

Updates from the forest: Kraaibosch, Garden Route 🌳 Our three restoration sites in Kraaibosch are looking much better than expected, especially considering the previous challenges posed by the large number of Eucalyptus trees in the area. While the clay soil makes water infiltration tricky, we're optimistic that with some time, full recovery will be achieved! Kraaibosch's unique context means that progress is slower than in other Garden Route areas, but with continued alien clearing, we're confident these sites will evolve into a thriving forest system! 🌳 #Greenpop #Treevolution #reforestation #forestrestoration #ecosystemrestoration

Peatland restoration has become a key focus area for Zulu Ecosystems as peatlands play a massively important role in our terrestrial ecosystem dynamics – in Scotland and beyond. Restoring them blends science, landscape design and craftsmanship. While some land restoration projects may take years to achieve measurable outcomes, restoring peatlands rapidly unlocks benefits, such as increases in functional habitat, benefits for wildlife, improvements in water regulation and quality, as well as locking in carbon that would otherwise be lost. 🖼️ On the left: Pre-restoration An eroding peatland gully, where concentrated water flow is eating away at peat banks. Without intervention, the process cannot self-correct, leading to continued degradation and carbon loss. 🖼️ On the right: Post-restoration The gully transformed: re-profiled and re-turfed banks. Water flow has been managed using baffles, dams, and armoured channels to slow erosion, raise water tables, and stabilise the landscape, laying the groundwork for recovery. At Zulu Ecosystems, our goal is to create outcomes that respect natural processes, allowing nature to continue and consolidate the work. To achieve this, we work with skilled contractors, consultants, and specialists so that we can deliver results that are both impactful and immediate. This project is so amazing. It's the first time I've heard of 'daylighting' which is bringing buried urban waterways back up to the surface using indigenous wisdom and nature-based solutions. As well as environmental and well-being benefits it will also enable the passing on of indigenous knowledge about traditional uses of plants. https://lnkd.in/ejin9vWf #IndigenousWisdom #NatureBasedSolutions

#Plant_a_Tree 🌳🌲☘️🌿🌱 #For_better_tomorrow 🎉🌏🌄 ♻️ He who plants a tree plants a hope. ♻️ Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago. ♻️ Planting a tree is the easiest way to align with nature. ♻️The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn. ♻️Trees are the lungs of the Earth. ♻️A tree is our most intimate contact with nature. #Trees #Plantation #Conservation #ClimateChange

In celebration of World Earth Day on Monday 22nd April 🌏❤️ we will be sharing reasons why buying a New Build home is a great decision for the environment all week. Did you know that *several tree species are great CO2 absorbers, and help clean the air while they’re at it. It is estimated that the average tree absorbs around 25 kg of carbon dioxide every year. Trees are the largest plants on Earth, and they provide more than just oxygen to humans. They also ensure the stability of the soil that other plants grow in, and provide shelter and food for animals in the wild and help control weather patterns through natural respiration. Through photosynthesis, tree leaves are able to absorb CO2 and water which is converted into chemicals by direct sunlight. Oxygen is released through this process, which sustains human life. Therefore trees mean life, literally. According to Forestry, Trees and Tree Planting - April 20, 2023 So we are really proud to say we plant trees along our roads! For further information on the new homes we have available 📲 call our team on 01843 272200 or visit our website for more details www.guildcresthomes.co.uk. Coastal erosion and climate change pose significant challenges for beachfront communities. To fortify against these threats while preserving aesthetics, many property owners and municipalities are choosing to integrate nature-based options. Soft #coastal solutions, such as #livingshorelines, oyster castles, and vegetative buffers, offer numerous benefits over hard infrastructure, including enhanced ecological health, habitat preservation, improved aesthetics, and adaptability to changing #environmental conditions, while minimizing the ecological footprint and promoting long-term sustainability. Marine Engineers, Kaitlyn Frega, CFM, ENV SP and Benjamin Komita, EIT explain the benefits of using similar solutions in areas like #LongIsland to help safeguard coastal properties for future generations.
