Monsoon: The Perfect Season for Planting! Compared to the harsh & dry conditions during other seasons, monsoon creates a conducive environment for sapling growth. Rainfall softens the soil, making it easier for roots to penetrate and establish a strong foundation. Increased moisture enhances the microbial activity in the soil, leading to better nutrient availability for the saplings. What's more? Using the concept of 'ecological synchronization', we align our tree planting efforts with the natural ecological cycles. Many local plant species are naturally adapted to sprout and grow during the monsoon season. Prevent Subsidence 2. Root barriers Root barriers aren’t always a guaranteed solution either. A root barrier is an underground wall installed to prevent tree roots causing damage to foundations and water systems. In practice, it isn’t usually feasible to install tree root barriers to a sufficient depth. Tree roots will often just grow under the barrier, with some roots reaching as deep as 5m or more! Reducing the tree’s size An alternative solution recommended by the Royal Horticultural Society would be to manage the problem by reducing the tree’s size. This is done by pruning the crown volume. RHS states that to be effective, “pruning needs to reduce the crown volume of the tree by at least 70% and be repeated on a regular basis such as every three years”.

What is 'loam' really? Simply put, #loam is the golden ratio of three key minerals: sand, silt, and clay. Why does it matter? Because this golden ratio is the ideal structure for air, water, organic matter, and microbes to work with each other and help your plants thrive. Tipping the scale can be disastrous for a garden. Too much clay makes the soil prone to waterlogging. while too much sand lets nutrients drain away too quickly. Check out our latest blog (link in bio) to learn more about how to make the perfect loam for your #wallgarden! #healthysoil
