Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to connect with family and check in on your aging parents. Angela Olea notes that festive gatherings often reveal age-related changes, making it a good opportunity to have essential conversations. 1. Cognitive Health: Watch for signs of memory loss or difficulty communicating. If you notice changes, consider discussing a cognitive screening with a specialist. 2. Financial Planning: Retirement costs are often underestimated. Discuss your parents’ financial situation to ensure they’re prepared for unexpected expenses and future planning. 3. Health and Safety: Assess their ability to manage daily tasks like walking or taking medication. If they’re struggling, it may be time to explore extra care or support. 4. Legal Planning: Understand their wishes regarding life insurance and end-of-life preferences. Having this clarity now can prevent future stress. 5. Wellbeing: If they seem withdrawn or down, it might indicate depression or loneliness. Consider discussing their emotional health and the benefits of senior living communities. Listen patiently, show support, and let them know you’re there to help. For additional guidance, reach out to Assisted Living Locators! #seniorliving #assistedliving
