If you had a group of employees that experienced more challenges than others, wouldn't you dedicate resources to supporting them? "In order to boost overall well-being, leaders need to understand how enacting policies or improving benefits can likely improve employees’ overall well-being." We work directly with dozens of employee resource groups (ERGs) like the one featured in this article to ensure that working parents and caregivers get the support they need. The result? The employee and the employer thrive.

"All of the leaders at my company have stay at home wives or partners." "My husband was asked by his leader why his wife couldn't take our kid to the doctor." "None of the men on my team took their full parental leave." "Sure, my manager SAYS they understand when I have to work remotely because my kid is sick, but I get the sense that they are annoyed." These are just a sample of the comments we hear from clients everyday and WHY WE MUST TRAIN MANAGERS! 💡 Recently the U.S. Surgeon General explicitly called out that employers should be "trained to identify red flags for stress and mental health challenges among employees who are parents or caregivers and to direct them to support. Organizations can also ensure parents and caregivers have equal access to development and advancement, to model the potential for career progression." ▶ This is exactly why are #ParentalLeave at WRK program includes a manager component that trains them on how to support, transition, and re-onboard employees before, during, and after leave. ▶ This is exactly why are most popular workshops are "Managing Parental Leave" and "Reducing Burnout & Overwhelm: Make Invisible Work, Visible With The Fair Play Method." Both of these workshops give managers and leaders insights and understanding so they can recognize and reduce burnout for employees. ▶ This is exactly why WRK/360 works with businesses to create cultures that support and uplift parents and caregivers. Yes, we do need policy and government support. Yes, we do need changes to how we access physical and mental health. And YES, we DO NEED employers to create workplaces that work for today's families. ~~~~~ 👋🏼 Hi, I'm Mary Beth, founder of WRK/360. "A body that keeps moving, one that returns to work, is more likely to heal." The success of a return-to-work program depends on a few important factors. According to Concentra’s Dr. Kathy Le, keeping employees working and engaged is crucial to prevent a "disability mindset" and to aid in full functional recovery. Additionally, companies with exceptional return-to-work programs prioritize communication, a clear destination and timetable for light duty, and a focus on social determinants of health. #returntowork #employeewellness #workerscompensation #workplacewellness #constructioninsurance #makeinsuranceworkforyou

Over 53 million US adults are caregivers, yet their personal family responsibilities aren't always easy to talk about at work. For caregivers, "bringing your whole self" hinges on creating a caring workplace where it's safe to talk about the struggle to harmonize work with home life. Caregiving is the #1 reason after early retirement why people exit the workforce, so it's crucial that HR leaders recognize and support this segment of your population. To truly support caregivers, we must: 🔎Identify common stressors: Caregiving duties often demand an additional 24 hours weekly and $7,300 annually. The stress, burnout, and cost are real. 💻Leverage technology: Modern tools like Grayce can help meet employees where they are, making it easy for employees to engage according to their needs and preferences. 🧑🦳With adults aged 65+ projected to outnumber children under 18 by 2034, it's clear that caregiving will become an even more prominent issue. Addressing this now can ensure a supportive and inclusive environment for all employees. Read more from BenefitsPRO: https://lnkd.in/gZYDxCEX #Grayce #EmployeeBenefits #InclusiveWorkplace

In recent studies by AARP, they found that: ▶ 1 in 5 adults are unpaid family caregivers ▶ 67% of family caregivers have difficulty balancing their jobs with caregiving duties. ▶ 27% of working caregivers have shifted from full-time to part-time work or have reduced hours; 16% have turned down a promotion. ▶ 16% have stopped working entirely for a period of time — and 13% have changed employers — in order to meet caregiving responsibilities. ▶ Among working caregivers they provide more than 21 hours of care a week. Carole Mendoza was trained to understand the link between employee wellbeing and company strength. As vice president of Human Resources at Voya Financial, she has seen firsthand ways to improve the employee experience in an inclusive way. The organization not only scores 100 out of 100 for their disability inclusion, they also extend benefits to caregivers! Carole knows everyone benefits when policies create a sense of belonging for caregivers. And this insight was made more tangible when Carole accessed the caregiving benefits. “I used this benefit myself to help support an aging aunt who was in a VA hospital 3,000 miles away,” Mendoza said. “My care coordinator was a tremendous help.” Voya offers a program called Weallthy to offer experienced care coordinators. (Many of us understand how difficult it is to navigate through the medical and support systems for your loved one while also working!) Mendoza shares, “There’s a growing momentum around caregiving support. With more employees speaking up about their unique needs and more visibility of those needs post-COVID, we know more about what support employees need to be most productive at work.” Creating an inclusive workplace is not just good for caregiving employees, it’s #GoodForBusiness. And it must be part of the #FutureOfWork. ✅ Read more about Carole’s story with Voya Financial by Kathryn Mayer at SHRM https://lnkd.in/e8vgD8Fx ✅ Follow Professionals Who Care to show your support for caregiver inclusivity in the workplace #inclusivity #EmployedCaregivers #DistanceCaregivers #CaregivingBeyondFMLA #EmployeeWellness #Retention #Recruiting #HumanResources

Navigating the dual pressures of work and caregiving is a reality for many, with more than 60% of working Americans holding a second job as a caregiver. This role often comes unexpectedly, adding layers of responsibility that can lead to stress and burnout. Employers have a crucial role in supporting these individuals. Acknowledging the challenges caregivers face is the first step in creating a supportive workplace culture. By fostering a psychologically safe environment, employees can share their struggles without fear of judgment, reducing stress and isolation. Recognizing symptoms of caregiving stress, such as exhaustion and frustration, is essential. Employers should regularly communicate available benefits and resources, ensuring employees know where to find support. Providing free educational resources and support is another key strategy. Digital resources on topics like mental health, fitness, and nutrition can help caregivers manage their well-being alongside their responsibilities. Clear and frequent communication about benefits is vital. Beyond open enrollment, regular updates on what's available can ensure caregivers have the support they need. By prioritizing the well-being of working caregivers, organizations not only support their employees but also contribute to long-term success. It's time for employers to step up and answer the call. #HR
