Friends of Cancer Research Policy & Regulatory Initiatives bring together stakeholders to assess emerging challenges in oncology drug development to inform policy recommendations for modernizing regulatory frameworks and clinical trials. Some examples of Policy & Regulatory Initiatives: Cell & Gene Therapies: Our cell and gene therapies (CGT) work enhances the translation of evidence to support clinical development and adoption of these therapies. By supporting alignment, we can ensure these innovative therapies reach patients safely and quickly. Clinical Trial Eligibility Criteria: Overly restrictive eligibility criteria limit patient access to potentially life-saving treatments and can impede progress. We partnered with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) to develop recommendations for broadening eligibility criteria used in cancer clinical trials to enhance trial results, reduce health disparities, and improve outcomes for patients. Tolerability & Dosing: As targeted therapies have emerged and are used for longer periods of time, understanding the tolerability of a therapy is critical to inform the optimal dose. We work to ensure oncology #clinicaltrials include patient-centered approaches to dosage optimization to support an understanding of tolerability. I'm excited to share our latest article on a rapidly emerging and important subtype of breast cancer: HER2-low Breast Cancer (BC) 💡🦀 In this review, we dive into the distinct clinical and molecular characteristics of HER2-low BC, a subtype defined by its low level of HER2 protein expression. Unlike the more aggressive HER2-positive BC, HER2-low BC often presents a more favorable prognosis, with early studies suggesting it is less likely to metastasize and may respond well to standard treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, and hormone therapy. However, there's still much to learn! Bizengri (zenocutuzumab) - Mechanism of Action https://lnkd.in/eNPWaMaW On December 4, 2024, the FDA granted accelerated approval to Bizengri (zenocutuzumab-zbco) for patients with the following: 1- advanced, unresectable, or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) harboring a neuregulin 1 (NRG1) gene fusion with disease progression on or after prior systemic therapy. 2- advanced, unresectable, or metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma harboring a NRG1 gene fusion with disease progression on or after prior systemic therapy. This represents the first FDA approval of a systemic therapy for patients with NSCLC or pancreatic adenocarcinoma harboring an NRG1 gene fusion.
