Algorithms vs. Expertise: Striking the Right Balance 🤖🧠 On the latest episode of Dectech's #PredictingPeoplePodcast my colleagues Henry and Nick discussed the increasing prevalence of algorithms in decision-making - and their ability to outperform human experts. This isn't a new phenomenon. As far back as 1954, psychiatrist Paul Meehl demonstrated that even a basic model could make more accurate diagnoses than experienced clinicians. Fast forward to today, and we see algorithms disrupting industries from finance to sports. One of the key reasons for their success? Algorithms are immune to the biases and inconsistencies that plague human judgment. They can process vast amounts of data and identify patterns that we humans might miss. At Dectech, we've seen first-hand the power of this approach. During our 10-year partnership with Tottenham Hotspur, we used an algorithm-driven system to help the club identify promising players. The result? Spurs' average league points increased from 52 to 69! Does this mean the end of human expertise? Certainly not. As Nick highlighted in the podcast, human judgment is still essential in novel situations - those "out-of-sample" cases (e.g. COVID pandemic) where algorithms lack the necessary training data. The key is to find the right balance between human and artificial intelligence. We need to leverage the strengths of both to make better decisions. It's a heavily debated topic... What is the right balance of professional services and subscription revenue in a SaaS company? Generally, SaaS companies aim to keep professional services revenue at about 15-20% of their total revenue, with subscription revenue making up the bulk at 80-85%. However, this can vary based on: - Product complexity: More complex products may require more services. - Target market: Enterprise clients often need more customization and support. - Growth stage: Early-stage companies might rely more on services revenue. - Product maturity: As products mature, they often require less customization. - Business model: Some SaaS companies intentionally offer more services as part of their value proposition. Key considerations: - Professional services can help drive adoption and reduce churn. - Too much reliance on services can limit scalability and reduce profit margins. - Services can provide valuable feedback for product development. Tune in to Episode #3 of The MOZR Founders Podcast where we go deep discussing Product & Professional Services and the approach we've decided to take.

On the latest episode of the Enterprise Thought Leadership podcast, powered by TechPros.io, we dive into the future of commodity trading with David Glasspool of Amphora. We discuss the evolution of CTRM technology, Amphora's innovative Symphony platform, the game-changing Alchemy system for concentrates trading, and their unique "Sandbox" offering for potential clients. But our favourite topic is Amphora's rapid 12-week implementation process. David explains how they've refined their approach over 25 years, setting up project steering committees and working groups to ensure smooth rollouts. This process not only accelerates time-to-value but also allows for thorough scoping of requirements and tailored training packages for each user. What's particularly interesting is how this approach contrasts with the industry norm just a few decades ago. David takes us back to the early 2000s when CTRM implementations often cost millions and took years to complete. It's a reminder of how far the industry has come and how companies like Amphora are driving innovation in commodity trading technology. This discussion opens up broader questions about the future of commodity trading and the role of technology in shaping industry practices. From AI integration to the increasing importance of data extraction and analysis, David offers valuable insights into the trends that will define the next decade of commodity trading. Whether you're a commodity trading professional or a tech enthusiast interested in industry-specific solutions, this episode offers a fascinating look at the intersection of technology and trading in today's rapidly evolving business landscape. Listen now to learn how you can stay ahead in this fast-paced industry: https://lnkd.in/gQnbuAUK Read the supporting interview article: https://lnkd.in/gE58cNi9 Interested in learning more?
