Had an incredible time last Saturday at GDG Montevideo #DevFest 2024 at the LATU! The day was filled with insightful talks and interactive workshops covering everything from AI and blockchain to web and mobile development. 💡 Highlights of the Day: 1️⃣ Sabre & Google: Building the Future of Travel One of the workshops that stood out was the panel by Sabre Uruguay, where they shared their partnership journey with Google. The speakers—Marcos Lucas, Rodolfo Paiva, and Pablo Abayian—gave us a behind-the-scenes look at how they’ve transformed their technology infrastructure using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Google Gemini. They showcased a fascinating new product—an advanced analytics software—designed for their clients, emphasizing how Google’s Data Analytics and AI tools are optimizing the travel experience. It was exciting to see how innovation is driving the future of travel! 2️⃣ Eduardo Mangarelli: Innovation in AI Eduardo’s talk on AI was another standout. He delved into the current state of LLMs and their evolution, highlighting their applications beyond text—like generating images, videos, and code. He didn’t shy away from discussing their challenges, such as biases and hallucinations, emphasizing the need for fact-checking and fine-tuning. His advice on leveraging AI for competitive advantage and going beyond the hype resonated deeply. The Q&A session at the end was particularly engaging, with Eduardo providing thoughtful and insightful answers to some tough questions. 3️⃣ Paula Martinez: AI in Real-World Applications Paula’s session was a fascinating dive into the practical challenges of implementing AI. She shared a project her company worked on for a mining client aimed at detecting unsafe driving behaviors, such as eating, using a phone, or not keeping both hands on the wheel. Paula highlighted the challenges they faced, including processing and labeling hundreds of GB of video data provided by the client, and adapting to the unique constraints of the mining industry, such as the lack of reliable internet in mines. To overcome this, they equipped vehicles with NVIDIA embedded systems, enabling on-site processing. Her talk offered a compelling glimpse into how AI can be effectively applied in industries with specialized needs. A huge thank you to GDG Montevideo and all the speakers for organizing such an insightful and inspiring event. The blend of technical depth and practical applications made it a day to remember. #DevFestMontevideo #GoogleDevFest #AI #MachineLearning #TechInnovation #GDGMontevideo
