Across Africa, many see their role in tackling the climate crisis as limited to labor-intensive, low-income work, rather than strategic, analytical, or leadership roles. Our founder, Joshua Amponsem, a climate visionary and entrepreneur, challenges this narrative. He calls for a transformative shift in climate funding to prioritize local talent and leadership. Joshua envisions a future where African youth lead as innovators, driving impactful solutions in the global climate movement. Rethinking the role of Africa’s youth in the green transition. In Africa, where 70% of the population is under 30, we have failed if we don't engage this rich and highly diverse pool of talents. Joshua Amponsem’s call is clear: the Global South’s youth are ready to lead the green transition. It’s time to rethink, refocus, and reinvest in their talent—not just as ‘laborers’ but as innovators, decision-makers, and leaders in this transformation. Explore how enabling policies, revised financial mechanisms, and technical education can position Africa and the #GlobalSouth as the leaders of the just transition in this TED Countdown. How are you enabling youth leadership in the Global South? #YouthLeadership #JustTransition #AfricaLeads #
Did you know that 78% of all funding dedicated to climate research in Africa between 1990 - 2020 ended up in Global North institutions? Think about this: how can equitable climate action be achieved when some populations suffer the impacts of #climatechange and others make opportunities from it? My TED Talk is officially out and I am happy to share it with all of you. From the first time I learned about climate change, to the various work I have done in this field to advance climate action, I share about the “absurd inequality of climate work” and share changes in three sectors - Academia, Finance and Policy - that are needed to “fix it” to create a new vision for #youth and #GlobalSouth leadership in this green transition. https://lnkd.in/d2vjdTJF Viewer Discretion Advised 🙈 📺 : We’re diving into the heart of climate action and uncovering the cracks where inequality festers. If you’re someone who prefers to sidestep conversations about privilege, global power imbalances, or how climate action often wears the cloak of neocolonialism—brace yourself. And if you’re sceptical about the bold leadership of young people in driving change, well, prepare to have your expectations flipped. Growth starts with discomfort, and this talk will challenge assumptions, rattle norms, and inspire action for an equitable and greener future. 70% of climate research between 2016-2020 came from Global North institutions, while the Global South faces the brunt of the crisis. Joshua Amponsem, in this powerful TED Talk, challenges Africa’s academia to build Africa’s young talent for the transition—not just as laborers, but as innovators shaping climate solutions.

Public speaking transformed my life. It can transform yours too. I used to be terrified of speaking in front of others. Now, I lead climate change workshops for youth across Pakistan. The secret? Practice and purpose. Every time you speak up, you grow stronger. Every workshop builds confidence. Every young leader inspired fuels your passion. Want to make a difference? Start by finding your voice. What's holding you back from speaking up? #YouthEmpowerment #ClimateAction #PublicSpeaking
