Notice anything different? The HEDW Board decided it was time to modernize. A lot has changed with Higher Education and data since HEDW was formed ~20 years ago and it was time to update HEDW to reflect that. So what changed? First, we are now Higher Education Data World. With changes occurring almost continually, that name is representative and relevant both today and in the future. Second, the HEDW Board has adopted a set of four themes to define our focus. The use of data in Higher Education has changed considerably and the structure around those conversations has changed as well. Adopting themes allows us to frame content, conversations, and focus into four areas. Want to learn more? Visit http://hedw.org and go to 'About Us'. There is now a section called, 'What is our focus?' that outlines the four themes and the areas that are a part of each theme. Want to be a member? Membership is free and is open to any staff at higher education institutions across the world. Come check us out!

Advancing Education Value: Renovating higher education information for 2050 To spur and accelerate Australia’s higher education transformation, it is imperative to innovate the nation’s higher education information architecture. Current metrics, designed 25 years ago with elitist and colonial assumptions, are withering in relevance and impact. The sector is not even grasping easily reachable possibilities. Australia, once innovator, now lags. It is timely to be intellectually venturous. This means moving well beyond student satisfaction and engagement information. It is time to advance, without historical or sentimental constraint, qualities of value for the decades to come. We are switching off for the winter break, and wish you all a wonderful time until next year! 🎄 Before then, however, let us introduce our Sixth (and last) Principle for Socially Responsible Digital Education 6️⃣ We create a space for questioning the assumptions driving education technology development and co-creating alternatives. Over the past year, Centre colleagues co-designed a set of guiding principles which articulate the strong threads running through our various research themes and inform our future research agenda. In line with our Sixth (and last) Principle: - Our work supports democratic and relational technology governance in education. - We question the value of corporate walled gardens and proprietary enterprise systems and platforms, and work to conceptualise alternatives. Examples of our work that reflect this principle include our collaboration with the Centre for Sociodigital Futures. GrantsNow is designed to pinpoint the specific involvement of other Higher Education Institutes within your research projects. https://lnkd.in/dU2Brsef For instance, if your institute is sponsoring an internal project, GrantsNow can recognize other Higher Education Institute as an option via sub proposals, ensuring clear, accessible records for their contribution to the FEC or other costing models. Beyond this, our system leverages 'dynamic forms' capable of capturing additional data regarding other institute's project involvement, such as the role of collaborator, and more. By embodying the essence of adaptability, GrantsNow puts the focus where it belongs: on your institute's valuable contributions. https://lnkd.in/dmk-dE86 ARMA UK (Association of Research Managers and Administrators)

Educause was held this week, and while last year's "Top 10" focus was on Institutional Resilience, this year has shifted to be about Restoring Trust. Higher ed is perceived as increasingly unaffordable, politically driven, and delivering poor quality content. This perception has led to a significant drop in public confidence, with only 36% of Americans expressing trust in higher ed as of 2024. Perception is not always reality, but when the operations of an institution rely on enrollment, perception can be a college-killer! That's why colleges and universities must face these trust issues head-on by demonstrating competence and care. Competence by effectively and efficiently connecting educational outcomes to employment opportunities. And Care through understanding and addressing the needs of students, faculty, staff, and community. Trust is also borne out in institutions' use of data and artificial intelligence. Skepticism is high due to recurring data breaches along with unclear policies around how student data is used. To counteract this, institutions must be develop ethical, transparent, and secure data practices, and ensure that technology is being used to enhance the educational experience in a people-centric way. Here's the Top Ten: 1. Be a Data-Empowered Institution 2. Simplify Administration 3. Smooth the Student Journey 4. A Matter of Trust 5. The CIO Challenge 6. Institutional Resilience 7. Faster, Better, AND Cheaper 8. Putting People First 9. Taming the Digital Jungle 10. Building Bridges, Not Walls If you want to know more about each item on the list, check out this article from Educause Review: https://lnkd.in/gMErDQFC What do you think, are colleges and universities still trustworthy pillars of society?
