Introducing Temwa’s new project Strengthening Resilience For Vulnerable Households in Malawi (SRVH Project)! The project aims to improve resilience for 150 vulnerable households based in remote communities in northern Malawi most affected by the climate crisis. Target communities will be supported to form 5 new beekeeping and 5 new livestock-rearing cooperatives. These groups will all have 10-15 members each and comprise 60% women and 25% young people, ensuring equal access to resources. Earlier in the year we saw the progress of one of the beekeeping groups in Zulunkhuni. The group reported that current honey sales have allowed them to pay the secondary school fees for 6 children, contribute towards the local school feeding programme, purchase fertilisers for farming which supports households, buy work tools, and even construct a house under the Chief’s guidance. Providing access to clean and safe water sustainably is the way to go. This not only leverages the efforts towards the realisation of SDG 6 but also improvement in the living conditions of the most underserved communities.

The Mind-Nature Institute grieves with the families and individuals whose lives were ended, property lost following a "wasteslide" in Kiteezi- Uganda . A lot of information is coming out regarding the supposed to be closed landfill by 2008 that still serves Kampala city and how a #waste hazard turned into a disaster. These include: 👉 the assessments and studies whose findings weren't taken as immediate. 👉 Political leaders and community concerns that were attended to but inadequately. 👉 Presidential directives that were less considered because they lacked an attached budget. 👉 Decommissioning plans that open ended in execution. 👉 Residents who have continued to stay in the vicinity in the hope that the land fill will shift soon, or were working on the site in waste sorting etc.Majority being women and children. 👉 Inadequate site monitoring studies to feed a sense of urgency needed for action. Water is essential for life, but millions of people around the world lack access to clean and safe water sources. This is especially true in Eritrea in the Horn of Africa, where only one in five people have clean water close to home. Wells and rivers are contaminated and boreholes are in poor repair, forcing women and children to walk long distances and posing health risks. That’s why this month, we are supporting the Zoba Debub Community Boreholes project, a carbon offset project that aims to provide clean and safe water to rural communities in Eritrea while reducing greenhouse gas emissions from wood burning. Almost 100 rural boreholes have been upgraded since 2016, and with our backing and other B=Corp businesses contributing, the project can accelerate. #EWSETA is at the #WISA (Water Institute of Southern Africa) conference currently underway in Durban. As part of the event, delegates travelled to various site visits. One of these was an enviro loo project at Mandosi Combined School. The clear water recirculation system, which replaced pit toilets, has vastly improved sanitation and fostered community development. This project is an example of the #WaterSkills of the future in action today. The technology requires a hybrid energy mix. #WaterProject #RenewableEnergy

Harnessing solar energy in building climate resilience! Mercy Corps Zimbabwe in partnership with USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance is delighted to highlight the remarkable achievements made in Makoni, Mutasa, and Mutoko districts. As part of our climate resilient agriculture initiative, we have been working to assist four communities in establishing nutrition gardens. These nutrition gardens are making a huge impact! Each community has now installed boreholes equipped with solar water pumps, a reticulation system, and a protective fence around the perimeter. This comprehensive setup ensures a sustainable supply of clean water for the communities. Thanks to these boreholes, a staggering 502 households now have access to clean water. This not only strengthens their overall well-being but also provides a significant boost to food production for 124 households. Through irrigation and clean water supply for livestock, we are empowering these communities to enhance their food security. The introduction of solar pumps has been a game-changer! It has alleviated the labor burden and saved valuable time, particularly for women and girls who often bear the responsibility of fetching water. By harnessing the power of the sun, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of community members. This initiative is part of the ELEVATE project, a 16-month endeavor led by USAID Saves Lives. Transforming sanitation in Benin: A tale of resilience and renewal The Grand Nokoué metropolis of Benin has struggled with a lack of services for safe disposal and treatment of human waste for years. A new fecal sludge plant, built in Sèmè-Kpodji with support from the World Bank, is transforming the city by improving the environment, reducing illness, and bringing a renewed sense of pride to the community. https://lnkd.in/dFkiTvzB
