I worked with a client recently who received some candid feedback from an employee about team demoralization. This feedback led to a significant shift in my client's approach to working with that the team. Understandable. It's easy to take such feedback as "reality" when it sounds believable. Being responsive to feedback is crucial, but this situation reminded me of an essential lesson: one person's perspective may not represent the entire group. It's a reminder of the importance of uncovering the collective experience of all team members. In my coaching practice, I emphasize the value of hosting collective clearing sessions. These sessions are containers where team members can express what’s working well and what’s challenging.
