#Jodie’sInsights Those of you who read my posts regularly will know that digital accessibility is both a personal and professional big rock for me. As a screen reader user, I encounter barriers every single day when it comes to fully participating in the digital environment whether it be to read information, access various systems and platforms to perform tasks both personally and professionally and even in trying to research platforms I can use myself in an exciting new chapter I will be sharing soon with you all. We do not have any national training readily available to support the pressure on the IT industry when it comes to digital accessibility experts. In both government and private sectors, there is a vacuum when it comes to finding people qualified to support digital accessibility. With the ground swell of awareness, desire and compliance requirements, we need opportunities for people to pursue this career path supported by training and employment opportunities. OZeWAI is working on understanding what this gap looks like and how we might release the valve on the vacuum to support the desperate need for these roles in our Australian context. OZeWAI Digital Accessibility skills gap research OZeWAI co-chair's Amanda Mace and Brigitta Norton shared an update on OZeWAI's Apprenticeship project at #PWAC2024 and the research being done to do a gap analysis of accessibility skills in the workplace.
