This is sad and worrying to see. Development Initiatives was one of the few sources of data on whether all these promises on locally-led development were being kept. I find it hard not to be cynical that a key reason governments are not funding them anymore - is because they are failing to deliver or be properly accountable for these promises. We have a systemic problem in that the way funding flows in the sector is mainly going to an over-sized body of global mega-INGOs, with too little getting to the hands and feet (local actors) and too little to the brains (organisations focused on accountability and learning how to do this better like DI, NEAR, Pledge for Change, CHS Alliance, Talk to Loop etc).
I’m saddened by the closure of Development Initiatives Poverty Limited, an organization that significantly shaped the data-driven agenda in the aid sector. During my three years there, I learned to analyze aid delivery from a systems-level perspective and confront the challenges that hinder meaningful change, particularly in the complex power dynamics of aid. It’s disheartening to see Development Initiatives fall victim to current funding shortfalls, a situation that also leaves so many people in South Sudan, DRC, and Myanmar without essential support. Development Initiatives was more than just data analysis; it held aid organizations accountable for their funding decisions and focused on prioritizing the needs of the poorest communities. While it’s bittersweet to close this chapter, the organization’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations of advocates for a more transparent and equitable aid sector. 💪📊 #AidTransparency #DataForGood https://devinit.org/

On 16th Nov 2024, I conducted an evaluation on agribusiness project for Magezi Julius, one of the beneficiaries Under the Economic empowerment and Financial literacy Project implemented by Dependable Youth Initiative Uganda (DYIU) in partnership with #PeopleProsperInternational. This project empowers youths with skills and financial knowledge they need to fight poverty. Our beneficiaries are emphasized to create more income streams using resources within communities. This has enabled them to shift their concentration from Odd Jobs they were doing to adopt money economy from their invented activities. While conducting this process, I discovered that Julius' project is majorly challenged by army worms with masses of eggs and have chewed his Maize leaves.Such challenges limit our course to reduce and End poverty among Vulnerable Youths. Together we can change communities and economic status of people we serve. 👉dyinitiative.org #communities #youths #skilling #poverty #agribusiness #economiempowerment Timothy Hargrove Dr. John H. At RAAGSAN, we reaffirm our commitment to play our role in ending poverty in all its forms, as outlined in Sustainable Development Goal 1 (SDG 1). SDG 1 aims to eradicate extreme poverty for all people everywhere, defined as living on less than $2.15 a day, and emphasizes the need for comprehensive social protection systems that ensure equal rights to economic resources and access to basic services. This goal highlights the importance of building resilience among vulnerable populations, particularly in the face of climate change and economic shocks. By enhancing our community engagement and implementing effective social policies, we can empower communities and improve livelihoods across fragile and conflict-affected regions across the Horn of Africa. Together, lets strive for a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive! #EndPoverty #SDG1 #EradicationOfPoverty #RAAGSAN #HumanitarianAid #Somalia #Kenya #PublicService #SustainableDevelopment #SocialImpact #SDGgoals

The vast majority of cocoa in West Africa is grown by smallholder farmers grappling with rural poverty thereby increasing the risk of child labour. These complex problems can be addressed through concerted, consistent efforts from all parties involved. Implementing the #areabasedapproach means creating safer, more resilient agricultural communities. During the upcoming symposium in Ghana, we will delve deep into the evolving root causes of child labour, drawing insights from various contexts. Our focus will be on exploring and advocating for the implementation of area-based approaches to effectively combat child labour. How can we further support these communities to ensure sustainable and ethical cocoa production? Share your thoughts! Bringing Processing Closer to Communities -Day 4 Yesterday, I highlighted the importance of bringing processing and production closer to rural communities as a powerful tool for fighting poverty. Please take a moment to watch the video below, where you'll see how some of the rural women we are working with at Durian Nigeria are transforming palm fronds into toothpicks. It all started with us sharing the idea, and now they are leading the charge. Just imagine if they had the right tools to accelerate this process. Think about what they could achieve with the vast plantations of palm available, or even by expanding into bamboo toothpicks. This initiative is already beginning to transform their stories. It’s a powerful example of how the right knowledge about local production, when brought to the people in a way that empowers them to lead, can become a vital tool in the fight against poverty. That’s it for today. Looking forward to sharing more tomorrow. Best wishes #CommunityEmpowerment #RuralDevelopment #PovertyReduction #LocalProduction #WomenEmpowerment #SustainableDevelopment #InnovationInAction #PalmProducts #SocialImpact #EmpowerRuralWomen #DurianFoundation #TonyJoy #DurianNigeria

🌍 Today, on October 17th, we observe the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty — a day to raise awareness and amplify the voices of those affected by poverty worldwide. In Balochistan, the struggle against poverty is particularly intense. The province faces challenges like limited access to education, healthcare, clean water, and sustainable livelihoods. The need for strong community-driven initiatives is more urgent than ever. 💡 Azat Foundation, in Balochistan, is making a remarkable impact. Through grassroots programs, we are empowering vulnerable communities, promoting sustainable development, and providing critical support in areas such as education, women’s empowerment, and livelihood generation and many others. Let’s come together to #EndPoverty and create opportunities for all, ensuring that no one is left behind in Balochistan or anywhere in the world. #InternationalDayForEradicationOfPoverty #EndPoverty #Balochistan #SustainableDevelopment #AzatFoundation #SDGs #NoOneLeftBehind #Empowerment
