In his own inimitable way Ken Burns provided the graduating class of Brandeis University what I consider a most brilliant commencement speech this year. My four key take-aways: 1. Leadership is humility and generosity. 2. Remember the opposite of faith is not doubt. Doubt is central to faith. The opposite of faith is certainty. 3. Don't confuse success with excellence. 4. Insist that we support science and the arts, especially the arts. They have nothing to do with the defense of our country; they just make our county worth defending. Take a listen to a most exceptional address.

My point is, we're embarrassed about things we should be proud of and proud of things we should be embarrassed about. Must watch for every student graduating from a university and joining the real world to build a career. https://lnkd.in/dZB8vNA2 Jerry Seinfeld delivers a humorous and thought-provoking commencement address at Duke University, emphasizing the importance of humour, hard work, paying attention, and falling in love. He encourages graduates to find fascination, not just passion, and to enjoy the small things in life. Seinfeld also advises against taking oneself too seriously and urges graduates to maintain their sense of humour throughout life. The three keys to life according to Seinfeld: bust your ass, pay attention, and fall in love. Effort always yields a positive value. Even if the outcome of the effort is absolute failure of the desired result. This is a rule of life. Find something where you love the good parts and don't mind the bad parts too much. The torture you're comfortable with. The less secure and confident you feel in the direction, the more surprises and excitement you will have in store. Please watch this video and share it with all your students! #careercoach #humour #commencement #duke #lifelesson #graduationceremoney #careercounseling #careercoaching #encouragement #motivation #career #comedylife #motivation #nafsa2024 #icef #studyabroad #studymasters

J.B. is the definition of "badass." J.B., FYI, is also a billionaire. Idiot has become a word that's shorthand for "people who don't think like me." Much like the words "freedom," "democracy" and even "economy" 360 degrees of people are hardwired with definitions that are unique to the contexts of their own lives. Which makes it so hard to communicate or have empathy for the opinions of others. "Smart" and "intelligent" are supposed to mean something, too. The smartest brainiacs, IMO, are comedians, actors, musicians and people who work or have worked in advertising (shout out to my peeps!) because of the speed by which they bring context to disparities, a.k.a. "insights," combined with their ability to create action plans (objectives). People who game the system to do whatever it takes to win (objective) are also not idiots at all. They actually are smart and make great strategists. For my political axis, my X would be cruel (left) to kind (right) like J.B., and Y would be dogmatism (bottom) to analytical context (top). So the upper right hand quadrant would be a pretty great person to lead. Sharing the same values would be whether we share the same definitions of words. Maybe all that is just too complex. Like life. So idiot for the win? #politics #strategy #marketingstrategy #politicalempathy #democrats #republicans #DNC #RNC #guesswhoiamvotingfor
