As a truly people-powered park, the High Line is a gift for dreamers and doers *from* dreamers and doers. On the High Line, parkgoers can immerse themselves in 1.5 miles of naturalistic gardens, take in stunning works of art, or bring loved ones to relax and connect in this magical space. We are grateful to be able to share the jewels of our people-powered park with the city—and even more so with the supporters who make it possible to keep our park in the sky thriving. Every year, we must raise nearly 100% of the funding necessary to operate and keep our park vibrant and thriving with one-of-a-kind gardens and art. Keeping the High Line wild and alive with creativity is only possible through the direct contributions of our supporters, who make it possible for us to keep this treasured urban green space flourishing. Your gift of any size can make a real difference—and it goes three times as far this #GivingTuesday. Learn more about how supporters like you directly power the High Line, and give today. 🍃: https://bit.ly/3ViWB1G 📷: Liz Ligon, Timothy Schenck

Robert Moses' tenure as Parks Commissioner undeniably shaped the city's green spaces. However, it's crucial to examine this legacy with a critical lens. The iconic parks department logo, a single leaf, is believed to represent the London plane tree, a species favored by Moses. While these trees have undeniable aesthetic qualities, their widespread planting came at a cost. Critics argue that Moses prioritized these trees due to personal preference, neglecting the needs of underserved communities. Furthermore, the comparison of London plane trees to "expressways tearing through neighborhoods" raises critical questions about the impact of Moses' planning decisions on residents. It's important to consider the social and racial equity implications of past policies when shaping the future of our parks. Let's foster a conversation about ensuring our parks serve all residents equitably and celebrate the diversity of our city's green spaces. https://ow.ly/6Qjv50QXpe5

Good News, Elizabeth City! 🙌🏼 Recently, the city of Elizabeth City was awarded a $378,000 grant from CAMA for the Camden Causeway Park revitalization. The grant is one of 14, totaling $2.8 million, that is being awarded to coastal communities across North Carolina to improve access to waterways. For two years, this park has been closed and fallen into disrepair, leaving much of the northern region of the Pasquotank harder to reach. This park never had a kayak launch, and only a skeleton remains of its 890-ft wooden boardwalk. As part of the revitalization effort, a kayak launch will be created, along with ADA accessibility—another thing this park previously lacked. It goes without saying, but I’m stoked about the launches being built! Seems like all the hard work is paying off. I’d like to thank @greensavesgreennc , an environmental organization here in the city, for spreading awareness about the need for new launch sites, in addition to the revitalization of Causeway Park! Huge shout-out to the city for making it happen as well. Construction is expected to begin in early 2025! 🔧🚧 ————————— #camdencausewaypark #elizabethcitync #kayaklaunch #waterwayaccess #ncwaterways #northcarolinaparks #revitalization #pasquotankriver #waterconservation #outdooradventures #greensavesgreen #waterwayrevitalization #coastalnorthcarolina #adventureawaits #wildlifeconservation #kayakingadventures #communityprojects #ADAaccessibility #kayaklife #sustainableliving #coastalliving #cityplanning #conservationefforts #outdoorrecreation #nikonphotographers #nikond850 #d850photographer #barlowstudio #natureenthusiast #keepgettingoutthere

This is a very interesting article about parks in communities. The thing that is missing is how the role of parks change in denser communities and how we still have many lessons to learn from Europe on that.

"The reservation system at Arches takes the guesswork out of whether you’ll be able to visit, and it helps Arches use its limited staff and resources for more national park protection and less traffic management. Our national parks are revered as 'forever places,' and with that important title comes the responsibility to support commonsense improvements today that ensure these incredible places stay protected for future generations." NPCA's Cassidy Jones, a lifelong Utahn, shares how planning a trip to Arches has changed over the past few years, and how reservations make sure the community has long-term plan to succeed alongside the park. #Utah #UtahParks #ProtectOurParks #TimedEntry #NationalParks #SaltLakeTribune"

I second this. Real estate in the Valley will do very well in the next 10 years.
The Town of Elkton was awarded a $155,000 grant from the Virginia Outdoors Foundation for Phase II of the Downtown Marketplace project to improve greenspace. The funding focuses on improving downtown greenspace and tree canopy cover and providing outdoor recreation and engagement amenities such as pathways, sitting areas, a sensory play area, a pollinator garden, and a native tree identification path.
