We are delighted to celebrate the International Day of Allyship today. Being an active ally is critical both in the workplace and beyond if we want to breakdown barriers to inequality and build a safer, farer and inclusive world. Today is about people coming together from all walks of life to celebrate unity, embrace diversity and foster a sense of belonging for all. What is Allyship? Allyship is the act of ACTIVELY supporting and standing up for individuals or communities facing systemic oppression or discrimination. It requires recognising our own privilege and using it to uplift others, amplify their voices, and advocate for their rights. Allyship is about being a friend, an advocate, and a source of solidarity. Resharing this Impact Consulting, LLC post for #InternationalAllyship Day with 3 lessons I’ve learned over the years on what it takes to be an effective ally. 1. Self-Reflection: I’ve learned that understanding my “why” is key to my being an effective ally for women and professionals of color. 2. Active Listening: I’ve learned that being an effective ally starts with truly listening to the experiences and needs of others with an open heart and mind. 3. Advocacy: I’ve learned to recognize and leverage my own privilege to advocate for others who are facing injustices. Although being an effective ally may not always be easy, it is always rewarding!

In their own words. Young people's views on why local youth clubs are important and why young people should be involved in decision making about services that affect them. This is why Young K&C is committed to putting young people front and centre in our decision making processes about grant funding. 📢 And it is why we will continue to advocate for more funding for local youth clubs, adventure playgrounds and all of the voluntary organisations that support local children and young people. "Youth clubs are important because it's a place where you can express your feelings and also a place where you can find your voice. Also, I think it's important that it's a place where you are away from the streets and any gang activity and any violence." "It's a place for me to hang out with my friends, express myself and share feelings." "It's different from school because there's no detentions. There's less rules. You can still learn but differently. In school you learn about education. In youth clubs you learn to socialise more, how to become a better person to talk to." "So you know it's actually coming from the young people who want these decisions being made, instead of adults thinking that they know what the kids want." "Youth voice and youth decisions are important because it's their future and also increases their confidence and makes them into the person they are going to be in future." "These decisions are affecting young people. They've going to be on the receiving end of it. And it's no good if a bunch of people who've never been to a youth club or experienced a youth club end up making the decisions. it needs to be young people, who at the end of the day, are at the receiving end of these things."
