It’s #NationalTeaDay today... a day to celebrate our drink of choice for the last two centuries. Did you know that 60 billion cups are consumed every year and, although contrary to popular belief it may not solve all of life's problems, there is evidence to say it has numerous health benefits and is generally a common ground to connect with one another. Here at Mantis there’s nothing more we like than grabbing a cuppa for a team chat or taking five minutes in the morning with a brew to plan our days ahead. We ask the team about their tea habits and to share a little-known fact about our favourite daytime beverage. Anna: What’s your favourite cup of tea and how do you take it? It has to be Yorkshire Tea, in a china mug, brewed a little first with a big splash of milk, every time. Spill the tea? According to legend, in 2732 BC Emperor Shen Nung discovered tea when leaves from a wild tree blew into his pot of boiling water. Martine: I’m a Twinings Camomile and Honey tea fan. It keeps me calm and happy throughout my day. Spill the tea? The tea clipper Cutty Sark’s hold could carry 10,000 tea chests at a time – that’s enough to make 200 million cups of tea in one cargo! Rebecca: Always Yorkshire tea... with the milk in first. It is the best way to make tea, and I am willing to die on this hill! Spill the tea? Did you know that the art of reading tea leaves is called tasseography? Jo: I don’t think you can go wrong with a Breakfast tea but I’m disagreeing with Rebecca – milk goes last! Spill the tea? In 1840, afternoon tea was introduced in England by Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford. She would become hungry around four o'clock in the afternoon, and so the trend started. Caitlin: I'm a huge fan of berry teas and different herbal blends, particularly if they’re loose leaf. I always leave the tea bag in until I’ve finished the tea. Spill the tea? Drinking tea is less likely to produce a ‘caffeine crash’ than drinking coffee. This is because the high levels of antioxidants in tea slow the absorption of caffeine, which results in a gentler increase of caffeine in your system and a longer period of alertness with no crash at the end. Lily: Classic breakfast tea is a staple, but I like a lemon or peppermint green tea in the afternoon. Spill the tea? Tea reached Europe in the 16th Century but people were using ceramic teapots in Asia and the Middle East 11,000 years ago. Ryan: Rooibos tea is my go-to, with a touch of milk and served with a buttermilk rusk. Spill the tea? Tea in England was originally an expensive product that only the elite could afford. Merchants and customers used little tea pots to test that the tea they had ordered was up to the quality they were expecting. #NationalTeaDay #TeaBreak #PRagency #PublicRelations #PRTeam #Team #PublicSectorTechPR #PublicSectorTech #PublicSector #PublicServices

Drinking chai (tea) every day can be both beneficial and potentially problematic, depending on how it’s prepared and consumed. 👉🏿Potential Benefits of Drinking Chai Daily>> ✔ Rich in Antioxidants Chai contains black tea, which is rich in flavonoids, helping reduce oxidative stress and support heart health. Spices like ginger and cinnamon in chai are also antioxidant-rich. ✔Anti-inflammatory Properties Ingredients like ginger, cinnamon, and cardamom have anti-inflammatory effects, which may aid in reducing inflammation and boosting immunity. ✔Digestive Aid Spices such as ginger and fennel can support digestion and reduce bloating. ✔Mental Alertness The caffeine in chai tea can improve focus and alertness, while the presence of L-theanine helps avoid caffeine-induced jitters. Blood Sugar Regulation Cinnamon in chai may help regulate blood sugar levels. 👉🏿 Potential Concerns of Drinking Chai Daily>> ✔ Excess Sugar If chai is made with a lot of sugar, it can contribute to weight gain, increased blood sugar levels, and other metabolic issues. ✔ Caffeine Sensitivity Overconsumption can lead to issues like insomnia, anxiety, and jitteriness, especially in caffeine-sensitive individuals. ✔ Caloric Intake If chai is made with full-fat milk and sugar, the calorie count can add up, potentially leading to weight gain. ✔ Iron Absorption Black tea contains tannins, which may inhibit the absorption of non-heme iron (from plant sources). If you have an iron deficiency, avoid drinking chai with meals. 👉🏿Tips for Healthy Chai Consumption>> Minimize Sugar: Use natural sweeteners like honey or reduce the amount of sugar. Choose Milk Wisely: Opt for low-fat milk or plant-based alternatives if needed. Limit Quantity: One or two cups a day is generally safe; monitor your caffeine tolerance.
