A Better Youth Mental Health Policy "the federal government has expanded funding for universal mental-health programs, particularly school-based interventions. Such policies, which don’t target seriously mentally ill youth but instead try to improve all students’ “wellness,” may be well-intentioned, but they are not effective. Policymakers should pursue triage instead." "the treatment itself can make things worse. “Awareness” programs, for instance, can make kids glamorize or ruminate on mental states they previously hadn’t been inclined to indulge, to sometimes harmful ends. Just as D.A.R.E. didn’t succeed in reducing drug use and WebMD has not made people healthier, educating kids on a wide-range of disorders won’t prevent them from developing psychiatric issues." #wortharead #education #mentalhealth #socialmedia #humandevelopment https://lnkd.in/eucvSkPc

The Forbes article "Why Addressing Youth Mental Health Is Critical In A Post-Pandemic Era" underscores the urgent need to prioritize mental health for young people, particularly in the wake of the pandemic. With nearly 1 in 5 adolescents facing mental health disorders and suicide being the second leading cause of death among youth, the situation is dire. The article highlights several barriers to effective care, including pervasive stigma, limited access to mental health services, and inadequate funding. The pandemic has only amplified these challenges, making it essential to address them through comprehensive, accessible, and well-funded mental health support systems. Investing in youth mental health isn't just about responding to a crisis; it's about ensuring a resilient future generation. By breaking down these barriers, we can create a more supportive environment for young people to thrive emotionally and mentally. This investment is crucial not only for individual well-being but for the long-term health and stability of society as a whole. #MentalHealthMatters #YouthMentalHealth #PostPandemicRecovery #MentalWellness #HealthcareForAll

⭐️ Good morning! Let’s kick off the week with some powerful insights on youth mental health and early intervention. In the UK, around 10-20% of young people experience mental health challenges, and 50% of these begin by age 14. Early support for youth is crucial—not just for their current well-being but for long-term success in life, relationships, and career. Here’s why early intervention matters: • Research by the Early Intervention Foundation shows that school-based programs can effectively reduce anxiety and depression symptoms in adolescents and prevent more severe mental health issues down the line • The HeadStart initiative by UCL found that targeted mental health programs in schools helped build resilience among 10-16-year-olds in high-need areas • Public Health England reports that every £1 invested in mental health intervention for young people yields a £5-6 return in reduced healthcare and social service needs At Power The Fight, we’re committed to empowering young people with the tools they need to build resilience. Let’s continue to champion early intervention as a way to create a stronger, healthier future for our youth ✊🏽 Please see links below for more insight #YouthMentalHealth #EarlyIntervention #PowerTheFight #MondayMotivation https://lnkd.in/ehw3MtTE https://lnkd.in/e9a4wR6B
