We are appalled at the backward steps the SHRM are taking regarding Diversity Equity and Inclusion by removing the reference and focus on Equity. If we don't have a level playing field then inclusion is most unlikely. You can have Diversity without Inclusion - Diversity is about representation. But you're not going to have all those represented staying for long, nor will they be feeling included or like they belong. So you need Inclusion if you want to walk the talk AND see the business value that DEI creates. And...𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆. For those who might have missed it: SHRM (arguably one of the HR profession's most trusted voices) announced a BIG change in strategy, by scrapping the word “equity” from their DE&I agenda, focusing only on Diversity and Inclusion. For those of us in the thick of tackling Equity issues and moving DEI&B goals in its various forms forward in our workplaces, this feels like a kick in the teeth and it's a huge step backwards for an organization that calls itself progressive.
