𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐚 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞-𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 "We are fully aware that the housing crisis in Portugal directly impacts the lives of million of citizens. Because of that I have been revisiting this subject over and over in the past few years. However, and despite its significance, the measures implemented until now did not suffice to remedy it. When we talk about housing, I have warned that the real challenge before us is access to housing, and this is basically s supply problem. We are building increasingly fewer and less affordable houses, specially for the national citizens, and this has just got worse year after year". Attention affordable housing stakeholders accelerating housing change, take a listen to Marlon Bray's candid, mathematical review of our current state, the business case for more housing action: >> Current state of housing in Ontario requires more coordination among all levels of government and action; >> Housing strategy is often hindered by political cycles that focus on short-term gains leading to votes; >> Housing is heavily taxed (29% was used from an example project). Honourable Minister Paul Calandra emphasized the need for: >> Reducing red tape to simplify homebuilding; >> Harmonizing approaches across jurisdictions, Bill 185 is a step toward ensuring clarity in time, money, and purpose. Are bike lanes part of that harmonization … assuming affordable housing is a larger priority, how can the Province create a deeper harmonized housing approach across jurisdictions? Let's focus on solutions! RESCON , Richard Lyall, Andrew Pariser, Vijay Thanigasalam https://lnkd.in/e23NeyQa

A great way to put it! Our metrics should be focused on “to what extent can people of all income levels afford decent housing,” not “how many units of Affordable Housing (meaning subsidized housing) did we build?” Subsidizing housing is *one means* to helping people afford housing. But it’s not *the end*. And ultimately, if the problem gets better, we’re succeeding. But if it continues to get worse, we’re failing - irrespective of how much money we pour into it.
Building affordable housing seems like a win for cities struggling in the Housing Trap. But between its top-down nature and the public subsidies it requires, affordable housing can actually make things worse.

We’re breaking down our new Regional Economic Strategy Delivery Plan’s 12 actions! Today, we're focusing on Housing, one of the three grand challenges in our refreshed delivery plan 🏡 It's essential that everyone, especially those of working age, can find the homes they need across our region. Here's how we plan to achieve this: • Implementing our Housing Action Plan: Growing our construction sector, promoting the region for home building, increasing home choices, and creating an enabling planning environment. • Collaborating and Sharing: Working with others on projects like retrofitting homes to meet Net Zero ambitions. • Reviewing and Adapting: Continuously improving our Housing Action Plan to guide future work. Launched in July, our South of Scotland Housing Action Plan aims to deliver more homes and more choices across the region. Learn more about our plan here: https://lnkd.in/eeneG7_q Keep a look out as we delve into our RES Delivery Plan over the coming months 🌟 #housingactionplan #regionaleconomicstrategy #southofscotlandrep

Ultimately, the essential imperative for national housing policy must always be a laser-beam focus on delivering tangible results that can be most deeply felt by those most desperately in need in our distressed communities. That, above all else, should be our North Star for national housing policy reform, our guiding principle, our roadmap. Let us find common ground to create a reformed national housing policy that produces not just good buildings but good homes, not just good tenants but good citizens, and not just foundations that support brick and steel, but foundations that support thriving communities.
