12 Days of Materials - Day 10 A favourite project in the studio this year, Candleriggs, Glasgow is an L&G BTR scheme that completed this Summer. Collaborating with the client’s brand and interiors teams, we developed and delivered a wayfinding scheme using 3Form to accentuate the brand’s vibrant and playful character. 3form is a highly versatile material that enhances signage with its unique aesthetic and eco-friendly properties. Our version was a bespoke configuration that practically emits light on its own. 3Form has been a leading innovator in environmentally friendly architectural materials since the early 90’s. Their highly versatile ‘eco resins’ were some of the first to offer whole-life recycling processes and properly transparent EPDs. - #12materialsoffrachristmas #12materialsoffrachristmas #fra #fracreative #designstudio #signage #designconsultants #wayfindingconsultants #signage #design #designfirm #designagency #wayfinding #signagedesign #designprocess #bespokedesign #projectmanagement #BTR #Scotland #Glasgow #Candleriggs

Now your speaking my language….cost and carbon in one place…I’m in. This is an example of a new tool being released that evaluates Embodied Carbon and Cost Optimization (ECCO) as part of the Tuuli offering. I have not explored the tool yet so I am unaware of what data it uses, assumptions, sensitivities etc. But what I am interested in and applaud is the continuous movement of making embodied carbon more mainstream. Any tool evolution is an evolution in the right direction. Thanks for sharing Vit. #embodiedcarbon #lifecycleassessment #carbonemissions #sustainablebuilding #sustainabledesign #lifecyclemanagement
Introducing Embodied Carbon and Cost Optimization (ECCO) Concept Beta 🌱 ECCO Concept is an embodied carbon decision making support tool for multi-family and commercial buildings at early design phases. Key features we’re excited about: • Iterate through different structural designs and interior/exterior materials • Easily compare 1000s of different design strategies • Track embodied carbon performance through a project dashboard You can try it today at www.trytuuli.com. We are continuously improving ECCO and are excited to hear your thoughts and suggestions for future features. Please do not hesitate to message me directly! We’re grateful for all the support that we’ve received from Chris Magwood (RMI), Fin MacDonald (Windmill Development Group), Graeme Armster (Tridel), Jeffrey Ranson and Jesse Zuker (Northcrest Developments), Justin George (Kadus Group) and many others to bring this to life! #embodiedcarbon #sustainabledesign #constructioninnovation

Double-skin facades are like a smart design trick for buildings. Imagine having two layers around a building, like wearing two jackets. What I like about double-skin facades is that they help keep the temperature and noise just right inside. The outer layer acts as a shield, managing sunlight and heat, while the inside layer lets designers get creative. #buildingdesign #sustainablearchitecture #greenbuildings #energyefficiency #smartdesign #innovationinarchitecture #buildingtechnology #climatecontrol #noisereduction #facadedesign

There was a time when the level of creative consideration given to specifying bus floors was limited to 50 shades of grey. But design moves on, and so do passenger expectations. To attract the general public, all public spaces – even those on wheels – need to offer a level of appeal that makes people want to use them. With Altro Limited’s Altro Transflor Metris Custom you can transform an everyday space into something truly extraordinary. And it’s not just about looking good. Our custom designs can make your spaces more accessible and user-friendly. Think clear wayfinding and high-contrast visuals that help everyone, including those with visual impairments, navigate with ease. With the superior print quality of Altro Transflor Metris Custom, your designs will stand out from the crowd, offering an unrivalled level of detail and vibrancy. Better still, the outstanding visual quality of the product is matched by its performance. Exploring the Intersection of Minimalism and Sustainability in Architectural Design In my personal and professional journey through the world of architectural engineering, I've always been fascinated by how minimalism not only enhances the aesthetic of a space but also its functionality and environmental impact. This image, created with the aid of AI, reflects my vision of integrating sustainable practices within modern living environments. Highlighting natural light, energy-efficient materials, and a layout that speaks to open, breathable spaces, it represents a harmonious blend of form and function. Features of This Design: Sustainable Materials: The use of eco-friendly flooring and wall paneling that contribute positively to indoor air quality and are sourced responsibly. Energy Efficiency: Strategic placement of windows maximizes natural lighting, reducing the dependency on artificial light sources, complemented by energy-saving LED fixtures. Minimalist Aesthetics: A design philosophy that strips away the non-essential, focusing on what truly matters—space, light, and quality of life. Inspired by my roots in Washington, D.C., and my background in Architectural Engineering, this design embodies my commitment to creating spaces that are not only beautiful but sustainable and energy-efficient. Let’s continue to design with purpose and passion. #GreenBuilding #SustainableDesign #Minimalism #ArchitecturalEngineering #EnergyEfficiency #Innovation #InteriorDesign #AggieProud #STEM #EcoFriendly #UrbanDesign #SmartDesign #ConstructionTech #ProjectManagement #RealEstateDevelopment #ArchitecturalInnovation #DMVArea

In design and construction, using complementary elements such as colors, textures, and materials is crucial for several reasons: - Aesthetic Harmony: Complementary elements create a visually cohesive and appealing look, preventing the design from appearing chaotic. - Functional Efficiency: Choosing the right combination enhances functionality, ensuring durability and practicality, especially in high-traffic areas. - Emotional Impact: Colors and textures influence mood and atmosphere. Complementary elements can create desired environments, such as cozy or modern spaces. - Brand and Identity: Consistent use of design elements can effectively convey a brand’s identity and values, enhancing recognition and customer experience. - Structural Integrity: Compatible materials ensure safety and durability, preventing issues like damage from temperature changes. - Environmental Considerations: Eco-friendly materials and designs can reduce environmental impact and optimize natural resources like light and ventilation. In summary, complementary design elements enhance aesthetics, functionality, mood, brand identity, structural integrity, and environmental sustainability! . . . #blackstoneconstruction #blackstone #birminghamal #birmingham #alabama #commericalconstruction #commerical #construction #residentialconstruction #residential #architecture #blackstonebuilt #constructionindustry #buildingdesign #contractors #constructionwork #propertydevelopment #constructionsite #renovation #constructionlife #buildingsolutions #constructionmanagement

Smart design can significantly reduce a building’s carbon footprint by using the right elements in the right places while maintaining functional performance and quality. For example, this could mean using slimmer hollow core slabs and unreinforced walls wherever possible. Consolis has hundreds of designers working on our local markets and we are constantly evaluating opportunities for smart and slim design. 🔽 Find out more in comments. #Consolis #ClimateCommitments #SmartDesign
