For International Women's Day, I wrote an opinion piece, published in the Nation newspaper yesterday. We need to genuinely address the root causes of the pathways for women to prison. Poverty. Unemployment and lack of livelihood. SGBV. Barriers to justice. Addictions and other causes. Justice for women is not just the right thing to do. It is also the best pathway to better economies and inclusive economies. Investment in services that divert women away from the criminal justice system will help end the harm of prison on women's lives, their families, and communities. Prevention through community level support services is better than prison.
