❌MISCONCEPTION ALERT❌ Non-executive directors are just ‘advisors’. Here's the reality: Being a non-exec director is a proper job. You have real duties, responsibilities, and liabilities. Just because the role doesn't involve daily operational decisions doesn't diminish the importance of their function in a company. They are there to: - Set strategy - Decide on investments - Play devil’s advocate - Check and balance - Hire and fire executives - Ensure compliance And while they aren't involved in day-to-day operations, they're still held legally accountable for every decision made and are subject to Companies Act duties. In fact, non-execs often bring a unique outside perspective and a wealth of experience to the table. So, if you're considering taking up a non-executive director role, don't underestimate its importance and impact. It's a position of trust and responsibility that requires a lot of hard work and dedication.

Is your company planning to hire a new CFO? Naturally, “financial acumen” (or the ability to manage the company’s finances effectively) topped the list of most-desired skills for CFO candidates in a recent survey of hiring managers. However, respondents prefer candidates who also possess nonfinancial competencies in areas such as leadership/strategy, compliance and regulations, technology and analytics, the company’s industry, and relationship building. Finding the right person to join your executive team can be challenging. You might even want to outsource the position. "Debate Topic: In leading a technological company, should the Operations Director possess a Financial or Technical/Engineering background? 🤔 As a CEO with extensive experience, I've observed the merits and drawbacks of both backgrounds. While Finance professionals offer a keen eye for day-to-day financial management, they might lack the technical insight and long-term vision crucial for innovation and growth. On the other hand, Technical/Engineering backgrounds bring a deep understanding of the product and industry, yet may overlook financial intricacies. Moreover, when aiming to enhance margins, should the focus be on cutting costs or boosting sales? Each strategy has its proponents, but which path truly aligns with sustainable growth and profitability? Ultimately, what matters most in steering a company towards success: financial acumen or technical prowess? Or perhaps, is it the passion for the business that serves as the most invaluable compass? Let's delve into these questions and uncover the ideal profile for an Operations Director in a technological company. 🔍💼 Whats your insights and experiences?? 👇 #TechLeadership #BusinessStrategy #FinanceVsEngineering"
