In 2023, The Food Bank shared 26.5 million pounds of food to tens of thousands of neighbors across our 32-county service area. According to a current study by Feeding America, 1 in 7 people - 1 in 5 children - in Missouri are food insecure. Based on more recent local data, that number is even higher. With rising food and transportation costs, serving more people with less is challenging. But thanks to our incredible supporters, partners, donors and volunteers, we've been able to adapt and continue sharing food at no cost and working to boost long-term food security in 2024 and beyond. Today is #GivingTuesday, an annual day of giving that follows the consumer holidays of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. After snagging great deals on gifts or tech for yourself, take today to reflect on where you can financially give back this holiday season. I may be biased, but 412 Food Rescue is such a great option, since you're supporting hundreds of nonprofits with your dollars. As a food rescue, we partner with food retailers to pick up their surplus food (that's still fresh and safe to eat) and deliver it to local nonprofits serving the community – safe houses, schools, housing authorities, LGTBQIA+ programs, churches, etc. Taking off the burden of where someone's next meal is coming from means they can focus on other things like caregiving, job search, addiction recovery or their mental health. A cool byproduct is also that keeping this surplus food out of the landfill mitigates harmful greenhouse gases like methane from being released into the atmosphere. Your donation doesn't just deliver food, but also access, security, and sustainability. It's creating a better future for us all. Donate today 💚 https://lnkd.in/dAFNegqe

For most, it's the berry season. For musician me, it's pie season. This summer marks the eighth year of my Pie & Persistence house concert series, which has raised over $85k for more than 30 non-profits from Seattle to Ukraine. And yes, there was a lot of pie. You can learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gF8Eyfuy In the semi post-Covid world, these typically happen during the summer. I'm a little stunned by how they've evolved from the early days of tip jars and collecting checks/cash for different organizations. This year, hosts have worked with individual organizations to create digital donation pages, which I think is pretty cool. Although this Friday's P + P for the Ballard Food Bank hosted by Jennifer Lamson and Ric Ilgenfritz is sold out, you can still support access to nutritious foods and services for 10,000+ households a month, keeping in mind that food is just the first step in their work of addressing the underlying issues their clients face. We can't address systemic challenges around hunger and food scarcity without building a strong network of community resources and services that are innovative, equitable and just. Access to healthy food is a right, not a privilege. Learn more and donate here: https://shorturl.at/6OMIP #pieforthepeople

🥬 Fresh, healthy food is a basic human right! 🥬 Yet it's becoming a luxury. The Boston Globe recently reported that grocery prices have gone up 25% since 2019. In that time, food insecurity in Massachusetts has also doubled. More families than ever are turning to food assistance programs for help. When they do, we believe they should find nutritious, high-quality options that nourish them, spark joy, and reflect their tastes. That's why Gaining Ground farms sustainably for hunger relief, and donates *everything we harvest* to regional food pantries, soup kitchens, day shelters, schools, and more. Will you support our work with a tax-deductible contribution today? Your financial contribution will yield fresh, organic produce this year for 2,100 households experiencing food insecurity in #Boston, #Lowell, and the #MetroWest. https://lnkd.in/e5vKvS7P Thank you!

In Michigan, nearly 12% of people face food insecurity, and many of our community members face barriers to accessing nutritious food. Food insecurity has soared over the past few years, making it more important than ever to create a future where our food system is equitable, sustainable, and equipped to meet southeast Michigan’s needs. At our foundation, we support a number of nonprofit organizations, including Fair Food Network, Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan, Forgotten Harvest, Capuchin Soup Kitchen, and Make Food Not Waste, who are working to increase food access, destigmatized food insecurity, and provide education and resources so that people throughout our region can thrive. Hunger is not just a problem here in San Diego. It's nationwide. Feeding San Diego is a partner food bank of Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger relief organization. Every year, Feeding America releases the latest findings from its annual Map the Meal Gap study. The findings released today emphasize the urgent call for all of us to take action. According to the new data from 2022, the number of people experiencing food insecurity has gone up in San Diego County. There are more than 350,000 people, including just over 100,000 children, experiencing food insecurity throughout the county. When we say people experiencing food insecurity, that means that at times during the year, a given household was unable to acquire an adequate amount of food for one or more of its members because they didn't have enough money or resources. The burden of food insecurity will impact generations to come right here in our county unless we continue to do the work to give a voice to those in need of the most basic human right: nutritious food. #aquacares National Food Bank Week, held during the second week of October, is not only a week-long food drive but also a time to raise awareness of the narrow line between a full cupboard and an empty one. Aqua partners with All Faiths Food Bank and the Food Bank of Manatee to help stop childhood hunger. For children, food insecurity is particularly devastating. Not having enough healthy food can have serious implications for a child’s physical and mental health, academic achievement, and future economic prosperity. Aqua is not just a partner, but a leader in the fight against childhood hunger. Our goal is to make a sustainable impact on children's lives, ensuring that hunger is not another obstacle they have to overcome while striving for a safe and happy home. 🌟 Exciting News as We Approach the 33rd Annual Fifth Third Day!🌟 This May 3rd (5/3), join us in celebrating a special day dedicated to community and compassion. Each year, Fifth Third Day symbolizes our commitment to tackle the pressing issue of food insecurity, one community at a time. 📈 In today's challenging times, food pantries are experiencing the same budgetary pressures that affect us all. With grocery costs having risen by 24.7% since March 2020 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics), and less overstock available for donation, food banks are finding it increasingly difficult to support those in need. But there's hope! * On Fifth Third Day, and throughout May, our collective actions will make a tangible difference. Your involvement will help us provide millions of meals across our 11-state footprint, extending even to California and Texas. Let's come together to make a significant impact! Share this post, spread the word, and let's fight food insecurity together! #FifthThirdDay #CommunitySupport #FightFoodInsecurity #MakeADifference #FifthThirdBank #communities #53Day #53better
