Today we published an exclusive video interview with Mike Rapach, President & CEO of CareFirst Community Health Plan Maryland (CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield), and our CEO Sebastian Seiguer, JD, MBA. We were lucky enough to sit down with Mike at the Medicaid Innovation Forum and record a far-ranging discussion of the current events happening in the Medicaid environment. SHADAC's latest blog (https://lnkd.in/gpz8xqWu) discusses the Integrated Health Partnerships (IHPs) Program, launched in 2013 by the Minnesota Department of Human Services. This program has pioneered an innovative approach in improving quality of care and reducing the total cost of care for the Medicaid population.   Ultimately, IHPs (MN’s Medicaid Accountable Care Organization (ACO) model) have proven quite successful, yielding quality improvements and nearly $546 million in total savings through 2022. In 2018, DHS introduced an updated design of the IHP program (IHP 2.0) with various enhancements & changes, placing a stronger focus on health equity, enhancing the risk arrangement incentives, and providing a population-based payment. Healthcare access for rural populations in the US is declining at an alarming rate, already affecting many, with worse consequences on the horizon. Of the approximately 2,400 rural healthcare centers that existed 15 years ago, 8% have closed, and about 50% of the remaining centers are operating at a loss. This means 54% of the currently surviving rural healthcare centers are in the red, with many at risk of closure.
