More good manufacturing news coming out of Huntsville! Raytheon, and their parent company RTX, just announced a $𝟏𝟏𝟓𝐦𝐦 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 to their Huntsville facility. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝟏𝟖𝟓 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐣𝐨𝐛𝐬 (on top of their already +/- 2,000 AL based employees). Getting ahead of my skis here, but sounds like this expansion will be for the Glide Phase Interceptor, 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭-𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐯𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐯𝐮𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭. Governor Ivey said "Some people call it the ‘Rocket City,’ I’ll raise that and say: the brightest minds in aerospace and defense call it home." Given that Huntsville employees have figured out how to develop the above missile, I completely agree. Roll tide Huntsville. 🚀 A New Era of Aeronautics? Russia's Su-57 has been spotted with a game-changing update—flat 2D thrust-vectoring nozzles. This innovation could redefine stealth capabilities and agility in modern air combat. Flat nozzles aren't just about aesthetics. They’re designed to minimize radar cross-section, improve maneuverability, and enhance engine efficiency. As 5th-generation fighters evolve, this could be a significant leap in aerospace engineering and military technology. 👉 Defence Agenda - Su-57 with Flat 2D Thrust Vectoring Nozzle What do you think this means for the future of fighter jet designs? Morning shower thoughts on strategery things: Topic - Historical examples of exquisite/generationally superior technology vs. Mass Case: WWII Systems of “generational” superiority: 🇺🇸: M1 Garand: first wide-scale standard issue semiautomatic rifle, providing overmatch vs. all contemporaries. Plus I have one, and it’s still awesome. P-80: 4 deployed to ETO in Jan ‘45, 2 in Italy made some recce runs but no combat engagements. Atomic weapons: self explanatory. 🇬🇧: Meteor: deployed earlier than the P-80, utilized mostly for homeland defense. USSR: (no apple flag - nice) …nothing, honestly. 🇯🇵: Yamato-class: Yamato and Musashi were the largest battleships the world had ever seen, with the biggest guns (18”) mounted to surface combatants, ever. 🇩🇪: Tiger I/II: the undisputed kings of contemporary tanks. Me-262: world’s first operational jet fighter Ar-234: world’s first jet bomber Me-163: world’s first operational rocket interceptor…and now thinking about it, only… V1: world’s first cruise missile V2: world’s first ballistic missile and the first object to enter space “Fritz-X” and more: firsts in remote-controlled, precision-guided weapons. Aside from the use of Little Boy and Fat Man to compel the Imperial Japanese surrender via demonstrations of complete horror….both of the Axis powers listed had all of their generationally superior “wonder weapons” soundly defeated. The Yamato-class battleships - only 2 were built, both were sunk - Billy Mitchell rejoiced. Of Nazi Germany’s many vastly superior systems - logistics/sustainment played a huge role in all of their downfalls to various degrees, but the biggest I want to point out is the Tiger series tanks, capable of completely decimating Allied formations. Total produced: Tiger I: 1350 (-ish, from memory) Tiger II: 494 (-2, can’t acknowledge inferiority 😝) Of JUST the M4 Sherman: 50,000+ I feel compelled to point out that as a historian, I look at our armed forces, primarily the USAF, and see nearly the same situation - a few numbers of exquisite platforms to overmatch large numbers of enemy mass….and yet, no “overmatching” payload…. F-22, F-35, NGAD maybe, 4++ Gen becoming more difficult to sustain, in ever smaller numbers… Sure, the nature of aerial warfare has changed. We do not have the capability to have 1,100 fighter squadrons equipped with modern jets (but…please?). However, quantity has a quality all its own, and as Russia is currently demonstrating - falling back on Soviet “keep throwing conscript bodies at the problem until it goes away” tactics continues to ultimately work against a technologically superior force. Quantity is a quality all its own. We require MASS, and not just of effects, but of actual iron/personnel in credible numbers. CCA check’s in the mail…I take hope in knowing the US steps up to the plate, historically, not when in a state of constant overmatch, but when met with parity or even at a disadvantage. We find ourselves there now. Bogey
