Summer breaks offer a unique opportunity to advance your personal and academic growth, inviting you to explore, experiment, learn, travel, and craft memorable experiences. It's essential to understand that merely attending summer school is not a golden ticket to Ivy League admissions. To truly stand out in the competitive college admissions landscape, it's crucial to leverage your summer in ways that demonstrate curiosity, initiative, and a capacity for leadership and innovation. Engage in community service projects, start a small business, conduct independent research, or immerse yourself in a new culture through travel. These experiences can vividly illustrate your unique qualities and potential to admissions committees. Summer is not just a season; it's a canvas for personal growth and exploration. It's about painting a picture of who you are and who you aspire to become. We encourage you to book a consultation with us to discover strategic ways to maximize your summer break. Milestone Reflections! Today, a rare sunny summer’s day, I had the pleasure of attending two lively graduation ceremonies in Coventry cathedral. In the process, I realised that this summer is the 40th anniversary of my own graduation, and inspired by the happy graduates embarking on a brave new world of work or further education, I offer the following reflections based on 40 years of work/life experience and ten key points that I have learned the hard-way! 1. Set yourself personal goals, review them frequently, and manage your own personal outcomes. 2. Trust your gut instinct. 3. Everything happens for a reason. 4. Keep your options open. 5. Be kind to the people you meet on your way up. 6. Work to live, don't live to work. 7. Make time for family and friends, they are (should be) constants, work is transient. 8. Frequently reflect on what you've achieved outside work and celebrate it. 9. Set life goals to achieve, then monitor and deliver them! 10. Notwithstanding the above, be adaptable, remember God laughs when people make plans!

It’s summertime! The academic year at colleges and universities has concluded and our campuses have gone quiet(er) in terms of students. My 10-month faculty just went off contract on June 15th and except for those teaching summer classes, faculty offices have gone quiet(er) as well. As we look forward to vacation time with family to mentally recharge, summer can be a time to recharge professionally. Whether it is your time to read that stack of work-related books you could not get to, earn a certification, take a graduate course, or overall upskill in a new area, what is the ONE thing you want to accomplish professionally this summer? I’ll go first…I have some new certifications I need to earn in preparation for my new job here at Carroll. More on that in another post. 😊
