In this week’s #Mozambique Weekly Media Review, we consider the so-called third and fourth “phases” of the nationwide #protests, including the narrative of a coup d’état. The #Afrobarometer has also released its findings on a survey related to the population’s perception towards the #government’s structure and the function of the opposition parties. And, while the #counterinsurgency effort progresses along the coast of Macomia District, security forces are seemingly not maintaining their positions in recaptured locations. We discuss this and more in this week’s Mozambique Weekly Media Review. For more information on #FocusGroup's Information Services contact us at infoservice@focusgrp.co.

#BurkinaFaso 🇧🇫: Recent shootings, first at the presidential palace, and then, at the site of a public broadcaster, in capital #Ouagadougou, are fuelling suggestions that Burkina Faso may be edging towards another mutiny amid a growing security crisis in the country. On June 11, #alQaeda linked Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (#JNIM) jihadist group launched attacks on forces stationed at an army base in the village of Mansila, near the border with Niger, in Burkina Faso’s northeastern region. Dozens of soldiers were killed in the offensive – 107, according to JNIM’s statements this week. https://lnkd.in/gxznb3UW On June 12, gunshots rang out around the premises of the Radio Television du Burkina (RTB), the national television network in Ouagadougou. The station is close to the presidential palace where Traore was meeting with a council of ministers at the time. Public broadcast stations are often early targets of rebels during coups, as it’s where new leaders have traditionally announced that they’ve seized power. Earlier, on May 17, local media reported shootings around the presidential palace itself. There are scant details of that attack, but official statements claim a lone armed person attacked guards stationed at the palace and was quickly subdued. 🚨Travel and work abroad are associated with security risks that can come from many different sources and their impact on people and business can be devastating. 🛡️ Septu Group is a specialist security, risk management and crisis response company that supports the evolving security needs of individuals and businesses around the world. I am happy to share my latest report, an overview of #child #protection risks in #Ukraine 👉 https://lnkd.in/eAk7mvRr . It identifies the factors increasing children’s vulnerability to particular protection risks, involving adverse impacts on #mentalhealth and the risks of #violence, #CRSV, #separation, #UASC, #trafficking, association with #armedforces, and access to quality Ukrainian #education. Some of the findings include: ◾ Between one-sixth and one-fifth of children in Ukraine are projected to meet the diagnostic criteria for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). ◾ At least 19,500 children have been forcibly transferred across Russian-occupied territories or deported to Russia, although the actual figure is estimated at about 150,000. ◾ The hostilities have increased protection risks, such as abuse and neglect, for children in residential institutions, and aggravated the key drivers of institutionalisation. ◾ In frontline areas, education is almost only online. Remote education is less effective than in person, leading to persistent educational deficits. ◾ In Russian-occupied territories, schools have switched to the Russian curriculum, and about 1/10 of children have continued to secretly learn in Ukrainian schools online. These children are at risk of being separated from their family if found out.
#Ukraine: more than 3.2 million children are in need of #humanitarian assistance. What kind of protection risks are these children facing? ◾ Between one-sixth and one-fifth of children in Ukraine are projected to meet the diagnostic criteria for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). ◾ At least 19,500 children have been forcibly transferred across Russian-occupied territories or deported to Russia, although the actual figure is estimated at 150,000. ◾ Of the children who went missing after February 2022, nearly 2,000 remain missing. We analyse key protection risks that children in Ukraine are facing and the vulnerabilities of different groups of children to these risks. Manipur security advisor Kuldiep Singh and DGP Rajiv Singh confirmed on September 25, 2024, that claims of 900 trained Kuki militants infiltrating from Myanmar to attack the Meitei community on September 28 lack substantiation. Despite verifying information from various sources, no concrete evidence has been found. Security forces remain vigilant, urging communities to be wary of rumors. The dubious intelligence was initially issued by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh's office on September 16, which suggested armed Kuki militants with advanced warfare training. A follow-up note from Secretary N. Geoffrey reassured the public that the likelihood of an attack is low. The original alert indicated organized militant groups threatening Meitei villages, causing significant public alarm and prompting a press conference by the security advisor. The Army had previously sought clarification on the intelligence regarding the supposed militants, pointing to potential security risks. Ongoing ethnic tensions in Manipur have resulted in at least 237 deaths and over 60,000 displacements since May 3, 2023. This unrest stems from the shared ethnic ties between the Kuki-Zo people and the Chin tribe in Myanmar, exacerbated by a long, unfenced border between India and Myanmar. #AsiaRisk #GeopoliticalConflictandDisputes #India Follow us for daily updates on risk and operations in Asia! https://lnkd.in/dpk3g_nm
Input on infiltration by 900 Kuki militants could not be substantiated on the ground, says Manipur security advisor

#SAS #TravelSecurity #SecurityServices #Israel: Israeli authorities have successfully thwarted a terror plot targeting the Azrieli Mall in Tel Aviv. The attack, planned by five Israeli-Arab residents of Taybeh who had formed an ISIS-affiliated terror cell, was uncovered through a joint operation by the police and the Shin Bet. The investigation lasted over a month before arrests were made. Initially, only two leaders of the group were apprehended, but it was later discovered that they had recruited three others to join their cause. The arrested individuals had been in contact with foreign ISIS agents and had even planned to travel abroad to meet with operatives. The police and Shin Bet report revealed that the suspects had watched videos of terror attacks in Syria and discussed the amount of explosives needed to bring down the iconic Azrieli Towers. The choice of the mall as their target was due to its central location and high footfall. Following the collection of evidence, the special police operations unit, "Gideonim," together with local police officers, arrested the five suspects who were found in possession of various weapons. The investigation will lead to an indictment being filed against them in the coming days. #Investigations #Intelligence #Securityservices #Executiveprotection #Securitymanagement #Travelrisk #Travelsecurity #Riskanalysis #Securitylogistic For info: S.A.S. investigations and security Phone: +39 0463 901545 Web: www.sasinvestigation.com Mail. info@sasinvestigation.com

Tensions continue to rise between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda following the resurgence of the M23 rebel insurgency. This sparks violence in North Kivu and exacerbates regional instability. Drawing from 57 interviews, our latest report assesses the stakes, motivations and impacts of the conflict through the eyes of local actors in North Kivu. Despite bing instrumentalised and supported by the Rwandan army, our findings highlight that M23 pursues its own distinct agenda and interests. These are rooted in longstanding tensions, dating back to colonial times, over access to land and customary power between Rwandophone communities and the province’s other ethnic groups. Contrary to popular framing, this conflict extends way beyond mere competition over Congo's mineral wealth. Mining serves as just one source of financing for M23, alongside household taxes, roadblocks, forced labor, and the illicit exploitation of timber, charcoal, and other resources.
