👁️ Looking Back: Non-neovascular AMD at the Forefront of EIS 2024 At this year’s EURETINA Innovation Spotlight, non-neovascular AMD took center stage with two dedicated sessions, highlighting groundbreaking treatments and future possibilities. Just a few years ago, advanced dry AMD received little attention in therapeutic intervention, but that landscape is changing rapidly. The sessions explored key developments, from intravitreal treatments like pegcetacoplan and avacincaptad pegol to innovative therapies like AVD-104 and ONL1204, all with the goal of slowing the progression of geographic atrophy (GA) and providing better outcomes for patients. 📢 What’s next? Yesterday -- October 20th, 2024 -- we completed the 13th Tucson Biotech Bike Ride. We've been riding together for one year. We retraced our steps of our first ride and rode 20 minutes where we stopped for tea and snacks. The "out" portion offered a significant false flat (much of Tucson offers false flats which are Not flat). The "back" portion offered a gentle downhill and a slight tailwind. The weather was divine. Iman Daryaei, Ph.D. Martin Fuchs, Nicole Scott, and Kimberley Campbell The cyclists represent TheraCea Pharma, Metfora Diagnostics, Cybele Microbiome, UGenome AI and Novartis The biotech leaders on this ride are collectively working to engineer new medical devices, create clinical diagnostic tools for the faster and more accurate detection of cancer and neurological disorders, detect serious and potentially fatal chronic diseases, find new uses for existing medications, unlock the microbiome for better skin, generate software tools for genomic medicine. The next Tucson Biotech Bike Ride will take place in November or December. Its morbidity and mortality are associated with its progression. The standard of care is radical treatment, consisting of radical prostatectomy and radiation therapy. These therapies are effective but are associated with significant complications including urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction. Focal therapy promises to meet this demand, by treating cancer while preserving key anatomy responsible for urinary and sexual function. Today is World Stroke Day. One in four adults over the age of 25 is expected to have a stroke in their lifetime - a condition that can affect anyone, at any moment.
